https://fantasycookie17.onederfultech.com/posts/2020/08/a-secure-os.html Discussion on sandboxing, virtualization, encryption, verified boot, exploit mitigations and so on. Occasional discussion on app security is allowed as well, especially when directly related to an OS's security. We focus mainly on FOSS operating systems, but discussion on how to implement the security features of proprietary ones in FOSS OSes is accepted as well. Discussion on operating systems in general, not specifically for security: #os:fantasycookie17.onederfultech.com Rules: In order to prevent these silent lurker bots that are around Matrix from staying in this room, please introduce yourself upon joining. Does gomuks even have moderation and such?
You might have to use some arcane Matrix commands rather than anything built into the client itself

Haven't taken a look, all I know is that it does
OK. No issues, I might take a look later. Thanks. I have heard of Gomuks though, considered using it before too. But I've been told by some setting up E2EE is weird.

@imperator_orionis:matrix.org@imperator_orionis:matrix.orgYou need to use /msetstate22:33:54

Chromium OS devices are cloud devices.

https://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/chromiumos-design-docs/login

That’s where the issues start… And reading the docs is just annoying because so much of it is stuff like “Should be shareable like a Google Doc” or “Should provide a flawless experience for using GServices” etc. etc. Things don’t end up to be good if you let a company who’s primary business model relies on collecting user data design an operating system. It may be secure, but it’s designed to be hard to make it privacy-friendly. And I don’t really see the point of security without privacy…

We are also currently investigating the technical issues involved with allowing users to log in to a Chromium OS device using a non-Google OpenID provider.

They have been “investigating” for months, lol.

@imperator_orionis:matrix.org@imperator_orionis:matrix.orgI've said this multiple times but it makes no sense why people still defend Google on this23:23:30
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org@imperator_orionis:matrix.orgAnd there's not much programming that you can do on a chromebook... trust me I own one23:23:58
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org@imperator_orionis:matrix.orgI had to use OnlineGDB, which isn't that great, whenever I was at school23:24:22
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org@imperator_orionis:matrix.orgAnd that is one of Linux's strengths, best in class programming tools (especially for C) all integrated into the terminal where you use a command line editor.23:25:42

Can’t you do stuff in crosvm?
23:30:47
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org@imperator_orionis:matrix.orgSort of23:31:07
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org@imperator_orionis:matrix.orgI haven't been able to set it up, it basically is incapable of running on my machine23:31:28
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org@imperator_orionis:matrix.orgIt's a low end device23:31:38
@fantasycookie17:fantasycookie17.onederfultech.comFantasyCookie17 And then it also seems like minijail doesn’t run inside crosvm, only for “system services” (which is something desktop apps are probably not considered to be). At least according to the docs. 23:32:34
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org@imperator_orionis:matrix.orgBut if ChromeOS is an OS for low end devices, I don't see why I should use my development tools in a VM of all things (we're talking a celeron here).23:33:56
