@imperator_orionis:matrix.org | In reply to @fantasycookie17:fantasycookie17.onederfultech.com Does gomuks even have moderation and such? You might have to use some arcane Matrix commands rather than anything built into the client itself | 22:31:53 |
concat | In reply to @imperator_orionis:matrix.org Haven't taken a look, all I know is that it does OK. No issues, I might take a look later. Thanks. I have heard of Gomuks though, considered using it before too. But I've been told by some setting up E2EE is weird. | 22:33:11 |
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org | You need to use /msetstate | 22:33:54 |

Chromium OS devices are cloud devices.

That’s where the issues start… And reading the docs is just annoying because so much of it is stuff like “Should be shareable like a Google Doc” or “Should provide a flawless experience for using GServices” etc. etc. Things don’t end up to be good if you let a company who’s primary business model relies on collecting user data design an operating system. It may be secure, but it’s designed to be hard to make it privacy-friendly. And I don’t really see the point of security without privacy… | 23:22:49 |

We are also currently investigating the technical issues involved with allowing users to log in to a Chromium OS device using a non-Google OpenID provider.
They have been “investigating” for months, lol. | 23:23:29 |
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org | I've said this multiple times but it makes no sense why people still defend Google on this | 23:23:30 |
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org | And there's not much programming that you can do on a chromebook... trust me I own one | 23:23:58 |
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org | I had to use OnlineGDB, which isn't that great, whenever I was at school | 23:24:22 |
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org | And that is one of Linux's strengths, best in class programming tools (especially for C) all integrated into the terminal where you use a command line editor. | 23:25:42 |
FantasyCookie17 | In reply to @imperator_orionis:matrix.org And there's not much programming that you can do on a chromebook... trust me I own one Can’t you do stuff in crosvm? | 23:30:47 |
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org | Sort of | 23:31:07 |
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org | I haven't been able to set it up, it basically is incapable of running on my machine | 23:31:28 |
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org | It's a low end device | 23:31:38 |
FantasyCookie17 | And then it also seems like minijail doesn’t run inside crosvm, only for “system services” (which is something desktop apps are probably not considered to be). At least according to the docs. | 23:32:34 |
@imperator_orionis:matrix.org | But if ChromeOS is an OS for low end devices, I don't see why I should use my development tools in a VM of all things (we're talking a celeron here). | 23:33:56 |

@imperator_orionis:matrix.org | Pretty sure it has something to do with sandboxing. Sure. It sucks on Linux. But honestly I don't care. | 15:47:40 |
