@ritoyuuki:matrix.orgritoyuukiI'm not very good when it comes to a router lol12:36:24
@thehidden:tchncs.deNo (PSA/Anonymous Planet 🌏) Buy router you can use custom firmware with (hopefully that supports prepaid sim cards). Flash open firmware. Setup Wireguard. Optionally setup the network to use a random card. 12:41:33
@dngray:polarbear.armydngrayhttps://lawrencesystems.com/pfsense-openvpn-policy-routing-with-kill-switch-using-pia-private-internet-access you can test it with opnsense/pfsense on a standard machine with two NICs12:42:37

In reply to @dngray:polarbear.army
originally i had it on alpine linux (and wrote this article) https://wiki.alpinelinux.org/wiki/Linux_Router_with_VPN_on_a_Raspberry_Pi and https://wiki.alpinelinux.org/wiki/Linux_Router_with_VPN_on_a_Raspberry_Pi_(IPv6)
but yeah, policy routing is how i did it with the above Linux example.

@dngray:polarbear.armydngrayopnsense is just nicer, to do it with.12:43:11

I plan to do this when I have earned some money. For now I should mostly buy a pixel and throw away my current xiaomi.

@dngray:polarbear.armydngrayi really like the opnsense appliances, cheap, and to the point.12:44:11
@dngray:polarbear.armydngraybut really you could try with any old computer12:44:43
@dngray:polarbear.armydngraydon't get sucked into building a forbidden router though, its a dumb idea.12:45:10
@dngray:polarbear.armydngrayhttps://shop.opnsense.com/product/dec695-opnsense-desktop-security-appliance/12:46:03
@dngray:polarbear.armydngraylong term support is there, so there is that.12:46:12
@thehidden:tchncs.deNo (PSA/Anonymous Planet 🌏)The most important part is control of the router tbh12:47:03
@dngray:polarbear.armydngraybut if you have an old PC, and not extremely high bandwidth, you could get away with something like an old laptop12:47:03
@dngray:polarbear.armydngrayyeah those opnsense boards will run anything, they use intel based NICs and are quality12:47:30
@dngray:polarbear.armydngrayi had a raspberry pi 2 with a USB dongle for years, don't recommend that though, as they're arm-based, and for pfsense/opnsense you need x86_6412:48:02
@dngray:polarbear.armydngrayyou could use an old laptop, would work okay12:48:39
@thehidden:tchncs.deNo (PSA/Anonymous Planet 🌏) That's good for traveling and not using a bulky router 12:48:43
@dngray:polarbear.armydngrayoh, if you're travelling, that's not really what you want12:49:11
@thehidden:tchncs.deNo (PSA/Anonymous Planet 🌏)I want to be able to stream even if I'm doing some camping in the woods and have my friends or whatever be able to do the same. But yes it's slightly impractical.12:50:49
@dngray:polarbear.armydngrayprobably in that case i'd just use one of those wifi travelling hotspots and the app then.12:52:58
@dngray:polarbear.armydngrayhttps://github.com/wfg/docker-openvpn-client works pretty nice though12:56:04
@dngray:polarbear.armydngrayauthor is working on wireguard support12:56:17

I always had an issue getting hot spots to work for multiple people
12:57:46
@dngray:polarbear.armydngraythere was one i tested the other day, netgear for a client12:58:09
@dngray:polarbear.armydngrayand it sucked hard12:58:11
@dngray:polarbear.armydngraypacket loss on the LAN lol12:58:15
@thehidden:tchncs.deNo (PSA/Anonymous Planet 🌏)And they all used the same connection so it bogs down quickly with 1080p and yes packet loss12:58:32
@dngray:polarbear.armydngraytbh i tether to my phone, or i don't really do internet12:58:37
@dngray:polarbear.armydngraythis was packet loss sending icmp packets to the printer lol12:58:56
@thehidden:tchncs.deNo (PSA/Anonymous Planet 🌏)Ooh rekt12:59:16
