@andrew:matrix.reticu.liAndrewIt makes sense for Syncthing because there is not much to announce that isn't handled well by Discourse. The only fundamental issue I see is that email is an antiquated mechanism, but as you mention, there is the RSS feed for connecting to other platforms. 13:07:11
@sergitsanz:tsztrix.ems.hostSergi TsanzI just thought about it in the sense of being able to promote themselves in a social media 13:07:45
@ealiberti:matrix.orgEmanuele Aliberti Andrew have you heard any news about the development of the integration of Discourse with Matrix? I had read their comment, but then I did not have time to follow the development of that sub-project. 13:08:14

Fortunately that can be done even more effectively by individuals posting about how they like Syncthing so the advertising is grassroots.

Coincidentally yesterday I was starting to install the official chat plugin to experiment with it

@sergitsanz:tsztrix.ems.hostSergi Tsanzsyncinh the documents folder across all my devices is pretty neat 😏09:44:22
@sergitsanz:tsztrix.ems.hostSergi Tsanzwho needs a cloud storage now?09:44:38
@skullone:matrix.orgskulloneyeah, it's pretty sweet09:52:45
@skullone:matrix.orgskullonestill handy to have a file server around always on, I've had conflicts from my phone being too low on battery to sync or my laptop not turned on and they both modified my KeepAss database, which wouldn't have been a problem if they'd sync'd to another device09:54:38
@skullone:matrix.orgskullonebut if you're technical enough to set up syncthing you can probably run a microserver, rPI or some other microcomputer as a NAS09:55:37
@ealiberti:matrix.orgEmanuele AlibertiOr a cheap VPS.09:56:44

@sergitsanz:tsztrix.ems.hostSergi Tsanzcould a local NAS replace syncthing?10:04:20
@sergitsanz:tsztrix.ems.hostSergi TsanzI always thought if I could have a local server to sync across all my devices at home it would be coool...10:05:03
@sergitsanz:tsztrix.ems.hostSergi Tsanzalso a copy of what is in the computers would be in the local NAS10:05:24
@andrew:matrix.reticu.liAndrewA local NAS serves a different purpose than Syncthing. The combination of the two is useful, because then you have a "persistent peer" with lots of storage capacity. This assumes that your NAS is basically a server that you can install Syncthing on. 13:26:54
@andrew:matrix.reticu.liAndrewThe benefits of having a Syncthing peer with lots of storage always online are that (1) you can use the NAS as a "receive-only" peer that ensures access to data between devices that are not always simultaneously online, and (2) the large storage capacity allows you to take advantage of features like Syncthing file versioning, which can help with conflict resolution for example.13:30:58
