grin | But seems like others are like that, too. At least all those surprised. | 11:50:12 |
grin | Anyway, it would be nice to have a newer package. 😟 | 11:50:45 |
grin | I really wouldn't put up that binary blob the ... developers publish. | 11:51:33 |
grin | I don't think I could replace only the part retrieving the media, and it wouldn't work with different versions of workers anyway. 😥 | 11:52:48 |
kitsune | Well, look, changes at specifically Matrix.org homeserver do not even belong to the Synapse release notes, the announcements about matrix.org are supposed to go to the blog. If you don’t want to follow it then don’t complain that you missed the message. | 11:57:45 |

grin | "Version xyz is required for servers above pqr enabling this feature or your media federation will break" | 11:58:47 |
grin | And you don't included the reference server of the synapse development. | 11:59:14 |

grin | You know, "courtesy". | 11:59:45 |
grin | Like helping people when one knows that they will break 80-90% of the media federation. | 12:00:16 |
grin | Was it a surprise for the developers that morg enabled that? :-) | 12:00:34 |
grin | Did they not know that it will break olders servers? | 12:00:53 |
grin | Would it create any harm to anyone to mention? | 12:01:21 |
grin | This is my point of view. | 12:01:32 |
Paul 👨💻 | This was all mentioned, and it only breaks media federation from accounts on matrix.org, so hardly 80-90%.
I get that you are upset, but there is no reason to exaggerate the issue... they felt kind of forced to, and a 5 month transition is fast but not like, done in two weeks....
Also the beauty of a federated system is that you can take your business somewhere else and larger parts of the ecosystem are affected...
If you happen to speak to mostly people on matrix.org that also happen to post images you want to see a lot, that's bad luck I guess 😬 | 12:08:50 |
Paul 👨💻 | It is unfortunate for Debian setups though... Debian and fast-moving protocols and implementations don't combine too well | 12:11:10 |
Q | So does someone have time to look at updating the Debian package? | 12:26:52 |
Q | As far as I know, andrewsh is looking for people to help. | 12:27:12 |
andrewsh | Antonio did, but then disappeared… https://salsa.debian.org/matrix-team/matrix-synapse/-/merge_requests/18 | 12:50:07 |

Q | Can I suggest you just apply the minor changes you want yourself? | 09:28:16 |
andrewsh | there’s more work to be done, and I have no energy or time to spend on it now | 19:30:02 |

| Thib (m.org) changed their display name from Thib (m.org, travels to Berlin) to Thib (m.org, travels back home). | 06:16:16 |
grin | andrewsh: is there some list of specific problems which are up for grabs? Or it's just we should try to package and see where it breaks? | 16:51:44 |
| @vpinon:kde.org left the room. | 20:30:36 |
