GrapheneOS Bridge | <skorp69:discord> Add ons are additional attack surface and are given a lot of trust (re @arbel:matrix.spacetime.technology: > <@grapheneosbridge:grapheneos.org> <skorp69:discord> Don't use Firefox is my idea

GrapheneOS Bridge | <zabrinu:discord> Mull is no longer maintained though? | 16:15:39 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <zabrinu:discord> RIP that sucks | 16:15:43 |
arbel | addons add features that i need, like a proper adblocker and proxy support, chromium doesn't have those at all | 16:16:48 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <skorp69:discord> Chromium does have it, and it's implemented without the need for extensions. | 16:17:16 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <skorp69:discord> Chromium uses a content filter engine | 16:17:35 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <skorp69:discord> Vanadium has basic block lists | 16:17:43 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <skorp69:discord> Brave makes more extensive use of the content filter and makes the lists configurable | 16:18:13 |
arbel | In reply to @grapheneosbridge:grapheneos.org <zabrinu:discord> RIP that sucks it really does... i have been u happily using it for a few years. | 16:18:45 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <zabrinu:discord> With Firefox's refusal or inability to fix site isolation in Gecko I'm not too surprised | 16:19:46 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <zabrinu:discord> Why maintain it if the program its based on can't even figure their own stuff out | 16:20:09 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <skorp69:discord> Those extensions make you more fingerprintable, are more vulnerable to being exploited, and also have pretty broad access to all the content you load | 16:20:36 |
potassiumxr | I really like some of the features that Firefox has on android, and some aspects in user interface(subjective). But the browser is unfortunately lacking in speed and most importantly in security, so I only use it on secondary mobile that does not have anything important in it. | 16:20:24 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <skorp69:discord> The developer for divest and the related projects has stopped for anything directly Android related (re @zabrinu: Why maintain it if the program its based on can't even figure their own stuff out) | 16:22:04 |
potassiumxr | Also, I have a question. Does using ublock origin without any further modifications and as an only addon increase or decrease privacy and/or security? | 16:23:40 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <zabrinu:discord> That sucks, did he say why? (re @skorp69: The developer for divest and the related projects has stopped for anything directly Android related) | 16:25:02 |
arbel | In reply to @grapheneosbridge:grapheneos.org <skorp69:discord> Those extensions make you more fingerprintable, are more vulnerable to being exploited, and also have pretty broad access to all the content you load perhaps they do, but browsing without a good adblocker is just unusable for me at this point, and whatever vanadium uses is not good enough to replace ublock origin | 16:26:05 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <skorp69:discord> Try Brave | 16:27:54 |
metahuman1 | Is Ublock Origin compatible with Vanadium? Because I think I'd rather use that and then use Vanadium for Youtube than have a youtube app on the phone. Youtube is getting really bad with Ads. Really. Really bad.
And I need my music to get through a work out at the gym. Or some of the BS at work.

arbel | In reply to @grapheneosbridge:grapheneos.org <skorp69:discord> Try Brave is there a mobile brave version with the crypto garbage removed? | 16:29:11 |
skorp | You can just disable any of that in the settings. | 16:29:29 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <zabrinu:discord> Huh, no answers. Seems kinda sudden and unfair for the people using it | 16:30:03 |

As far as I know it is not compatible. I suggest to consider looking into an app called newpipe. It lets you watch YouTube without ads, in background, and you can download videos. | 16:30:40 |

No, most android distributions of Chromium do not have support for extensions. A few do but are very questionable with regard to staying up to date and security. Brave is the only mainstream project with an equivalent content blocking implementation. | 16:30:43 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <skorp69:discord> I think it's fair to the devs though. They have been doing so for free for a long time. (re @zabrinu: Huh, no answers. Seems kinda sudden and unfair for the people using it.) | 16:31:02 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <.f1nal.:discord> he said elsewhere that he was just tired of working on it as long as he had, it was over a decade he started open-source work (re @zabrinu: Huh, no answers. Seems kinda sudden and unfair for the people using it.) | 16:31:18 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <zabrinu:discord> Yeah, I see that. More of a heads up would have been nice though | 16:32:28 |
GrapheneOS Bridge | <skorp69:discord> Hopefully it helps move people to newer and more secure devices | 16:33:01 |
