Hello, looking for some tips to buy a windows 11 laptop to daily use focused on security. Willing to spend around 1.2-1.5 USD. Any suggestion of brand/hardware? If the question is off topic, I appreciate if you could direct me a specific room. Thanks

Surfacebooks are a good choice: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/surface-security

@ab9090:matrix.orgab9090Thanks. Had the same recommendation in another room. Any specific reason to pick the surface? I was thinking about a Thinkpad as an option19:41:28

It's very rare to receive firmware updates on desktops/laptops, but surfacebooks do in fact get these updates: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/surface-security#factory-level-security-protocols-and-inspection

The only other laptops that I know receive firmware updates are macbook and chromebooks.

At least upgrade to Pro. Licenses are quite cheap

My problem with Qubes is Fedora guests, it's hard to trust them even assuming Xen won't be compromised
