figadore | can someone please explain to me what it means when they say "see you next sunday, as in tuesday" or whatever? | 01:39:08 |
Wes | In reply to @figadore:matrix.orgFor years and years the show was live on Tuesdays. First at 2pm local then 12 as it is today. A few years ago (probably more than I'd like to admit) we switched to Sunday. So it's an homage to that I suppose. | 02:00:11 |
Wes | * For years and years the show was live on Tuesdays. First at 2pm local then 12 as it is today. A few years ago (probably more than I'd like to admit) we switched to Sunday. So it's an homage to that I suppose, amongst a few things. | 02:00:54 |
Mase | Chris also used to do the "next Tuesdaaaaay" sign off | 02:31:06 |
Mase | It was a thing | 02:31:13 |
figadore | interesting. so, grammatically, how is it supposed to be parsed? | 03:39:11 |
Mase | Not sure I understand the question. | 04:04:50 |
figadore | In reply to @mase_nocturnal:matrix.orgok, i just don't quite get the wording or what it means, but since i have some background now and i don't know how else to ask, i'll drop it | 04:08:05 |
Mase | Oh it is just saying see you next week :) | 04:10:31 |
Wes | Basically Chris said "see you next Tuesday!" For years, as a goodbye to the audience and saying we'll be back with another episode next week. He said it so long it became a meme and we even named a beer after it. So when we switched to Sunday for recording the show, the Tuesday kinda stuck around. | 04:54:10 |
HAL9000 | In reply to @vlouvet3:matrix.orgMy understanding is those 2 hardware wallets are really great. Another choice is the Raspberry Pi W without WiFi capability “seed signer” I assume you can make from off the shelf components so as to leave less of a receipt trail attached to your identity. I’m not sure that’s the idea or one of the ideas that motivated its design and release, which I assume is just a shopping list and some instructions. So it’s probably a low tech high tech device for tinkerers and DIY types. Those are 2 areas right off the bat where the seed signer could excel. If you’re into the security from off-the-shelf-components you might use a masked card to order it under an assumed name and account while having it delivered to a locker instead of a home or business address or travel to micro center and buy it with cash. I’ve considered doing that, however you might be able to purchase a cold card or whatever the other card is, a jade card? For that matter. I’ve considered wearing a disguise and changing my gate, voice and manor to attempt to delink my identity from the purchase for physical security reasons. However I have too much pride and vanity to follow through with a stunt like that. But I could have been a contender. I might train a dog or bird to bring money and a shopping list to the micro center but not sure if the staff would understand or is allowed to sell merchandise to animals, even with a note attach to the animal after a reconnaissance to see what the exact choices are and the item numbers are. Of course this is all ridiculous ways to counter the ridiculous amount of data that’s being collected. I’ll post a link to how absurd data collection and sales are. Keep in mind, BTC is likely to continue to increase in value compared with its first publicized purchase of 20,000 BTC for 2 large pizzas around 2010, I suppose. By now it’s more like 20,000 large pizzas for 2 BTC. As the value of BTC continues to increase you might not appreciate data brokers selling the info that you likely have BTC to anyone willing to buy that list of names and addresses for a few dollars or less. They’re in the data selling business, after all, and there’s no law that you have to disclose that information to data brokers if you don’t want to. | 08:24:21 |
simulatednsnakes | Kent Overstreet is now saying that he may move bcachefs back out of the kernel due to the head of the Code of Conduct committee forcing him to publicly apologize after he told someone on LKML to GTFO because they suggested that a nofail memory allocation path should not be caught at all. Apparently the two of them have worked it out but the CoC thinks he has aggrieved the community. | 15:31:49 |
simulatednsnakes | The CoC verbiage for a public apology was added to Linux 6.12: https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20241114205649.44179-1-skhan@linuxfoundation.org/ | 15:36:53 |
HybridSarcasm | In reply to @simulatednsnakes:matrix.orgDid Kent come out of the Nix community? This is hig school rivalry stuff. | 15:44:22 |

simulatednsnakes | Well Linus isn't merging Kent's latest commits so it's a two-way street, even if Linus is bound by the CoC. Unfortunately for end-users that want the latest bcachefs fixes/features, those (currently) will not be found in the kernel. Kent's diatribe on the matter: https://www.patreon.com/posts/trouble-in-116412665?post_id=116412665 and the pertinent LKML post(s): https://lkml.org/lkml/2024/11/21/128 | 15:49:14 |

pe1uca | Hey guys! Just wanted to update in here about the issue I had last week updating to Ubuntu 24.04 with my Nvidia card. Seems I solved the issue changing to plasma. But I during the many tests to fix it in gnome I think, because of some logs, the issue was related to gdm, so when changing to plasma I also changed to sddm, probably that's what has my device is stable now. I'll do some more testing and post/report it somewhere afterwards | 01:26:10 |

Mase | @noblepayne:jupiterbroadcasting.com: I found the same with Futo. Paid to support the app and don't have a better option... But out is worse than when I tried it to stay with | 07:22:26 |
