tgr | In reply to @tgr:matrix.org ...I came here to note that WikiApiary is down apparently it got hit by the Cloud VPS disk corruption, so not much to do about it | 06:23:35 |
hexmode | In reply to @tgr:matrix.org apparently it got hit by the Cloud VPS disk corruption, so not much to do about it Reference? | 13:36:56 |
hexmode | https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/cloud/2019-February/000538.html reference | 13:40:52 |
hexmode | oooo! Even worse. wikiapiary/pub2 was one of two machines that didn't come back up: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/cloud/2019-February/000545.html | 13:44:09 |
hexmode | Hopefully, we'll know more soon! | 13:51:59 |
cicalese | Yes, I checked on it a little while ago, and it is still unhappy. But, hopefully Andrew can recover the missing data. The issue with it seems to be that it was so large that it took a while to recover. That doesn't *necessarily* mean that it will suffer permanent data loss. My wikifarm was also affected and appears to be ok now. | 13:52:38 |
hexmode | I've heard bad things about SSD failures. They don't seem to be as hardy as platters of spinning rust. | 13:53:54 |
hexmode | Hopefully there was some RAID action. | 13:54:13 |
tgr | three SSDs failed at the same time, RAID doesn't really help there | 16:01:40 |
tgr | AIUI there was data loss for basically all VMs but not a huge amount so with some luck none of the data that actually matters was affected | 16:02:33 |
tgr | wikiapiary just takes longer to rescue because it had more data than most other VMs | 16:03:13 |
tgr | probably a good idea to rebuild the VMs though, if that's easy to do | 16:04:33 |
cicalese | Good incentive for me to migrate my wikis to a meza-built VM now that it supports debian. I believe meza will also make it easier to back up my wikis, right jamesmontalvo3 ? | 16:06:27 |
hexmode | tgr: raid would help if each of the SSDs were in a different RAID5 array. Then the drive could fail and you'd just have to swap it out. | 16:10:15 |
hexmode | but, yeah, doesn't look like that. | 16:10:24 |
rundg |

Meza makes backups on /every/ deploy unless you specifically tell it not to. The feature can sometimes be annoying if you forget to turn off backups while working through failed deploys because you can accidentally fill up your disk.
| 16:54:00 |
rundg | you turn off backups with --skip-tags backups | 16:54:20 |
rundg | I meant --skip-tags backup | 16:59:03 |
rundg | Check your Meza for this feature (I just added it, and jamesmontalvo3 merged it) with meza deploy [env] --list-tags | 17:00:42 |
jamesmontalvo3 | Let's not use this channel for in depth Meza comm. | 17:07:39 |
rundg | General MW Q. I see plenty of documentation on how to add namespaces. How do you remove a namespace? | 17:08:01 |
rundg | so that it doesn't show up in teh Advanced Search dialog | 17:08:22 |
jamesmontalvo3 | Move all the pages out of it then remove the namespace from your config | 17:10:13 |
rundg | In reply to @jamesmontalvo3:matrix.org Let's not use this channel for in depth Meza comm. didn't notice the channel due to the almost invisible highlighting of Riot -- sorry | 17:10:29 |
rundg |
Move all the pages out of it then remove the namespace from your config
I thought I did that... now that I have database access, I can check to make sure there are no articles in the namespace.
| 17:13:04 |
rundg | I might have to do it with CSS because for namespaces like Module, Widget and Gadget, I assume there's no way to remove them from config. And if there were it would probably be a bad idea because they're part of core. | 17:15:28 |
rundg | I wonder if there's a way to customize the Advanced Search box for groups (Admin) because there are a lot of default namespaces that don't make sense for regular users when 'regular users' don't edit:
Template
All talk namespaces
Form
Widget
GeoJson
Module
Gadget | 17:22:49 |
hexmode | freephile: isn't there a newer search UI like on MW.o? (or maybe that's an extension.) That would help with the "I don't want to see all these namespaces!" I think. | 17:36:02 |
rundg | hexmode: there is a new UI. I'm just not seeing it in Meza 32.x so I don't know what's responsible for it | 17:40:14 |
rundg | wait a minute, I think that's the 'Advanced Search' extension | 17:41:02 |
