Handstands, partner acro and juggling mainly. Sounds like you and I are in a similar boat. I've been training hand balance for a couple of years now, as @russ.sharek:matrix.org mentioned, we're acro partners, and I learned to juggle as a kid and have picked it back up when circus found me as an adult. | 19:47:09 |

mollyart | Hallo Dear Circus and Tech friends.
Im currently writing a "thesis" about copyright and circusarts. (because i have to). And i finally made it to the Copyleft/Free Culture movement. I assume you guys here may know one or two things about this (in conjunction with circus). therefore i have 2 Questions:
1 How do you handle the Copyright question yourself? ( Have you messed with it?, What were the Consequences/Insights )
2. Do you think its viable to Licence Circus Performances under a CreativeCommons Licence? (Or what Licence would you choose/reccomend)
Best thanks for your thoughts upfront

Russ Sharek | Molly,
This is a terrific topic to research, and I'd really like to hear more from circus artists about it. I've noticed a terrible tendency to assume you're either too small to get caught, or simply deciding to worry about it after it becomes an issue.
For my part, I strive to make as much free art as possible. I use Creative Commons and public domain licensed materials to develop my work, and release finished pieces under similarly shareable and remixable licenses.
I think it's absolutely possible to do this, having done it myself a couple of times. Here's an example of one of my own pieces, a juggling/clown performance called "Le Belle et Le Bete".
https://archive.org/details/LeBelleEtLeBete
The original song came to us via the HitRecord project, which listed it as being in the Creative Commons. We took it to the studio and re-recorded it, and I developed the performance. When finished, I released it back into the wild under a similar license.
Totally possible. My guess is that most performers simply are unaware of the possibility, and larger organizations just pay whatever royalties they must to use music.
I've noticed that artists, including myself in the past, hold on to the nebulous concept of ownership of their content incredibly tightly. It took me a long time to realize it was entirely based on fear. Partly because I didn't want someone taking my work, and more honestly because I was afraid of whatever idea I was protecting might be my last.
Letting go of that and learning to share was REALLY good for my creative process.
Hope this helps!
