@footballsportsfan1960:matrix.orgfootballsportsfan1960* I was one of the no votes. I used to love how vibrant this community was and I'd love to see its resurgence. Never been a big poster because of imposter syndrome I think (i.e. "everyone else's setup is way cooler and they're way smarter than me" type mentality) I'm off Reddit now after the API change and I use Discord exclusively for a small number of gaming-specific use-cases so my Linux community has gotten much smaller unfortunately06:39:34

5 people voted no, but it seems it is mainly you and me
Maybe

Don't feel bad everyone has an imposter syndrome at something

I am off reddit to. Thinking of moving to lemmy but it seems to be even more political over there. So I am finally really going after an RSS feed.
09:09:14
@rabid.rivas:matrix.orgrabidTried syncing the feed with Nextcloud but all the foss clients I found cant parse the contents of the articles... And my current nas can't really aford to run another service for syncing09:11:31
@footballsportsfan1960:matrix.orgfootballsportsfan1960I've not tried syncing my RSS feeds yet, so far they all live in the feed reader on my phone, I should probably look into syncing15:07:00
@footballsportsfan1960:matrix.orgfootballsportsfan1960But I feel you on the NAS, my drives are 93% full lol15:07:42

Man always is at 100% memory utilization
17:03:56
@rabid.rivas:matrix.orgrabidTBF currently it only has 8GB of ram 17:04:06
@rabid.rivas:matrix.orgrabidHopefully I can upgrade it soon 17:04:17

@footballsportsfan1960:matrix.orgfootballsportsfan1960Yeah man i had that too. I ended up eventually moving all my services to Proxmox on a really old laptop but at least it had 16gb of ram, and then I just mounted my NAS as an NFS for the storage and backups cause that CPU was hella slow even compared to my old laptop05:06:38

Maybe one of those Intel NUCs or a used Dell Optilex on Ebay could do the heavy lifting and then just use the NAS for storage?

I just haven looked into moving my ≈1tb nextcloud instalation in truenas core to proxmox, but I really want to do that

@the-mentor:matrix.orgDementor 🇮🇱🇺🇸I'm still using reddit only on my android device using a special trick that let's me use 3rd party apps 14:11:06
@the-mentor:matrix.orgDementor 🇮🇱🇺🇸 rabid: why do you want to move from truenas core? 14:12:05

You have to generate your own api key correct?
15:54:36
@rabid.rivas:matrix.orgrabidI finally caved and made a lemmy account yesterday, but I would love selfhost my own instance to have my account15:55:21

rabid: why do you want to move from truenas core?
I just don't really understand it and they are moving away from their own plugging system. I'd rather have some discrete containers
15:56:03
@the-mentor:matrix.orgDementor 🇮🇱🇺🇸I personally run ubuntu with zfs and containerd 16:25:04
@the-mentor:matrix.orgDementor 🇮🇱🇺🇸It has the upside of zfs being built into the kernel 16:25:44
@the-mentor:matrix.orgDementor 🇮🇱🇺🇸And it doesn't have over complicated things that are built into proxmox 16:26:25
@the-mentor:matrix.orgDementor 🇮🇱🇺🇸And it works very well 16:26:56
@the-mentor:matrix.orgDementor 🇮🇱🇺🇸I also wrote some powershell functions to help me manage zfs 16:27:46
@the-mentor:matrix.orgDementor 🇮🇱🇺🇸So I'm quite happy with it 16:28:00
@footballsportsfan1960:matrix.orgfootballsportsfan1960I keep wanting to try ZFS but it feels daunting lol. I've been trying to set up a dev/test server to play with more concepts without blowing up my main stuff, maybe I'll give it a whirl there16:40:33

You use powershell over bash or zsh as your main shell right?
16:42:02
@the-mentor:matrix.orgDementor 🇮🇱🇺🇸Yep 16:46:55
@the-mentor:matrix.orgDementor 🇮🇱🇺🇸I prefer pwsh since it has lots of great features like shell completion similar to fish 16:47:25
@the-mentor:matrix.orgDementor 🇮🇱🇺🇸It's also a lot easier for me to deal with objects rather then strings 16:48:18
@footballsportsfan1960:matrix.orgfootballsportsfan1960

I've gotten to liking pwsh a lot as I've had to work with more windows servers and process a lot of Json in my day job, but haven't managed to convince myself to install it on my Linux computers yet.

Seems like it integrates just fine though? My original concept of it was that maybe it would be less compatible since everything is a file in Linux vs an object in pwsh
