threadpanic | Ok, so my desktop pc broke down, and I currently don't have the gold coins to fix her. So I installed Qubes OS on this laptop I had, and wow do I love this OS. Especially because I can keep using archlinux with it, basically | 09:18:28 |

threadpanic | Yes, it's got a great well-supported community template for Arch | 11:49:16 |
threadpanic | I could also install Fedora but honestly I'm not a fan of it.. too much updating from version to version | 11:49:47 |

threadpanic | It's just a shame my laptop is just a bit too underpowered to be able to build librewolf :o( | 11:50:55 |

threadpanic | It's not too heavy. I have a slow laptop, with some memory, but not too much 16gb, and an older SSD. It all runs smooth, and mostly responsive. It's a joy | 11:55:20 |
threadpanic | but having said that, it does want heaps of memory, one reason that the LW builds fail (the LW build has one component (gkrust) that uses an insane amount of memory to compile) | 11:59:51 |
threadpanic | That module actually holds back Firefox open source aspects, making it harder to find the resources to compile it. | 14:19:04 |

sylvie | In reply to@threadpanic:matrix.org but having said that, it does want heaps of memory, one reason that the LW builds fail (the LW build has one component (gkrust) that uses an insane amount of memory to compile) heaps as in itll struggle under 8GB? | 10:01:35 |
sylvie | feel free to share more of your thoughts on qubes, it caught my attention some time ago so knowing more about it would be nice, i guess | 10:03:20 |
threadpanic | Another cool thing about Qubes is that it has both debian and arch. so I can install things like Unity3D using debian, which is better supported than arch, for Unity that is. | 16:04:11 |

anyone00 | very interesting | 11:33:54 |
anyone00 | i wonder how well it will work with nvidia GPUs | 11:35:46 |

threadpanic | Wow. LibreWolf in a disposable VM works pretty ideal, especially with the ProtonVPN app working in the sys-net vpn, I can just select where I'm from with the proton app, and fire up a brand new LW | 22:17:56 |
threadpanic | But about the GPU's: I've got an Nvidia gpu and a builtin Intel. using pci passthrough on either crashes my laptop. I've checked and enabled vt-d in my bios, but somehow the dom0 doesn't see it, or pick it up.. I'm still figuring that one out. But not having passthrough means it uses mesa-gallium stuff, and abysmal framerates. It's safer yes, because if you hack my game client you get just the vm, but with pci passthrough the attacker could exploit a bug in the dom0 nvidia driver | 22:22:45 |
