micah-dutro | As someone who uses Windows 11 and WSL2 for work every day for software development.... I have no complaints. | 20:17:02 |
micah-dutro | It's awesome to have multiple distros available at my fingertips, including NixOS | 20:17:23 |
micah-dutro | When it comes to Docker, I think the "blessed path" is to use Docker Desktop. But instead of spinning up a Linux VM, it uses WSL as the Linux base to run the containers in. | 20:18:50 |
micah-dutro | I don't use Docker on a daily basis though. | 20:19:00 |
micah-dutro | I'm mostly doing .NET 8 development targeting Ubuntu containers on Azure, so I just do my dev/testing in Ubuntu in WSL2. | 20:19:41 |
micah-dutro | I also do some IaC scripting in Python/Go in the same WSL2 Ubuntu instance. | 20:20:13 |

micah-dutro | Anyway, just a little feedback on the WSL segment on 587 | 20:22:42 |

But instead of spinning up a Linux VM, it uses WSL as the Linux base to run the containers in. I think Docker Desktop or Docker in WSL are fine either way. Just don’t do both at the same time. And WSL microk8s didn’t play well with Docker Desktop. Which is why we got rid of Desktop and just installed straight into WSL | 20:49:48 |
micah-dutro | Yeah, I can see that. Depends on what you're doing. | 20:50:39 |

TheGoldenDragon (Mick) | Isn't that pre crime thing a reference to GATTACA | 15:48:33 |
TheGoldenDragon (Mick) | Or am I thinking minority report | 15:50:23 |
kpovoc | Minority Report has precrime as its central plot point. I can’t speak for GATTACA | 16:03:59 |
TheGoldenDragon (Mick) | Was minority report then | 17:44:51 |

decbot | @chrislas:jupiterbroadcasting.com: did I hear right and you had ~$100 credit you could use for global entry? You should look at Nexus instead of global entry. It gives you global entry at US and Canada border crossings (air and land crossings) | 17:21:36 |
chrislas | Yeah ok, I was wondering 'bout that. | 17:21:57 |
chrislas | Hmm I think I will do that ✅️ | 17:22:11 |
decbot | So you'll get to use the short line for going into the US and into Canada | 17:22:29 |
chrislas | Boy that would have been nice this last trip. I think the line was about an hour long | 17:22:47 |
decbot | I got it back in 2017 since I was crossings a lot for meetings and trainings | 17:23:18 |
decbot | You do have to complete an interview with each country's boarder patrol to prove you don't need a work visa | 17:24:21 |
chrislas | In reply to @decbot:matrix.org You do have to complete an interview with each country's boarder patrol to prove you don't need a work visa Once, or every time? | 17:24:44 |
chrislas | I think I saw what you are talkin about | 17:24:52 |
chrislas | The short line still had to stop at the booths, answer a few questions | 17:24:59 |
decbot | But in your case, I think it would be fine since you're meeting your colleagues and checking on your equipment in Canada | 17:25:07 |
chrislas | Yeah, it went smooth last time. | 17:25:22 |
decbot | In reply to @chrislas:jupiterbroadcasting.com Once, or every time? Once as part of application | 17:25:23 |
decbot | I actually got my card after the US interview. The Canadians aren't too happy that I already had it for their interview | 17:26:23 |
