I’m curious about Chris’ thoughts on Nix’s long term viability, given the issues the project appears to be having at the core developer level.

I’m a bit late to the game, and don’t really want to invest the time learning a totally new way to manage my system when the new way may not even be around in 2 - 5 years.

Long term viability? Zero impact at all.

Every distro in history goes throw community drama growing pains. Nix's community size has exploded in the last couple years.

IDK maybe they are, but don't think they are address the chief concerns of serious deployments. They are addressing social conners, which appeals more to individual end users, and their non-production systems. Which is totally fine. But prolly not appropriate in the context of investing "the time learning a totally new way to manage my system when the new way may not even be around in 2 - 5 years." I ignorant to think Nix won't be around in 2-5 years because a few of the community's most intense personalties got upset and forked. I am sorry for being so blunt about it, but I think some perspective is needed here.
