darknao | but we could also use that page to list the Everything (and Minimal) variants as I think we don't have any link to them at this point | 20:11:24 |
darknao | (https://fedoraproject.org/spins/minimal/download & https://fedoraproject.org/everything/download) | 20:12:54 |
darknao | those pages are basically hidden | 20:13:21 |
glb | Is there a link to that everything download page somewhere? I hadn't noticed it. | 20:13:34 |
glb | Spook too soon. 🙂 | 20:13:46 |
darknao | no I don't think there is | 20:13:47 |
glb | I've also seen a few requests to get that everything installer promoted better on discourse. Getting that link up might be something we should prioritize. | 20:14:43 |
glb | * Spoke too soon. 🙂 | 20:15:09 |
glb | BTW, I've seen confusion in the past around what is meant by "network" installer. Some people seem to expect that to be for PXE booting or something. I think "online installer" might be a helpful phrase that we should try to slip in somewhere to further hint about what it is. | 20:18:02 |
darknao | I'm fine renaming "Network Install" to "Online Install" | 20:20:27 |
glb | I assume that kind of rename would need to go through a process similar to what Atomic Desktops did. | 20:21:35 |
glb | Though maybe it isn't quite as significant. | 20:22:24 |
darknao | I was about to say that it only needs a quick replace here https://gitlab.com/fedora/websites-apps/fedora-websites/fedora-websites-3.0/-/blob/develop/components/utilities/FpDownloadItem.vue?ref_type=heads#L74 | 20:25:05 |
darknao | but if you think it needs to be a more careful decision, then maybe we can hold on that | 20:26:41 |
glb | Yeah, there no reason to be in a hurry about it. | 20:27:12 |
glb | Is there a SIG that "owns" that installer? | 20:27:38 |
darknao | not sure, but the Server edition also have a net installer, so maybe we can ask the server sig what they think about it | 20:28:59 |
glb | I'll start by dropping a comment in their Matrix chat room ... if I can find it. | 20:30:03 |
darknao | so the Robotics SIG just told me that the robotics lab is not maintained anymore, and should be removed from the website | 20:30:53 |
darknao | I'll take care of that for F40 | 20:31:03 |

glb | darknao: FYI, the server working group is requesting that we not promote the everything installer on fp.o. So I guess we have people asking for opposing things now. I've seen users on discussion.fp.o complaining that the network installer is hard to find and requesting that it be linked somewhere. I don't know what to do at this point. 🙂 | 14:23:01 |
darknao | ok, so we leave it on the old/new alt.fp-o then? | 14:26:25 |
glb | I'm not sure. I'm not even sure where we had in mind to move it. 🙂 | 14:27:45 |
darknao | or do they want us to promote the Server net installer instead? | 14:27:57 |
glb | I'd suggest taking a peek at the #server:fedoraproject.org Matrix room to be sure you are seeing the same concern about linking the everything install as I am. | 14:28:52 |
glb | Peter is saying something about not wanting people to see/use the "Everything" installer as an alternative way to install the server edition. | 14:30:00 |
glb | Apparently he considers what it installs to be a somewhat broken version of the server edition. | 14:30:39 |
glb | I wonder if "Everything" is the best name for the installer? Would something like "custom online installer" be better? | 14:31:42 |
glb | The best thing to do for now is probably to wait and think about this a bit. 🙂 | 14:32:37 |
darknao | Yeah, I think maybe he understood that we wanted to add the Everything netinst to the Server page? or to promote it in other editions? where the goal is I think only to provide a link to the everything artifacts somewhere in the navigation menu (or in the new alt.fp-o page) | 14:34:45 |
