threeletteracronym | Not surprising, really. They're unable to actually make it work reliably enough to just hand it out. So they need to filter the users for those who understand that "autopilot" is really just marketing speek but instead the car will sometimes actively try to hurt you because the software is way too dumb but tries to be too clever about it. | 04:37:06 |
threeletteracronym | The situation is really a mess: The other manufacturer's (at least the European ones I drove recently) assistance systems are way better now, because they don't come from this "I'm the autopilot, I know better than you stupid human" position. They just support you where they can and get out of the way when they can't. Tesla's autopilot instead always thinks best for you and gets in the way all the time. There marketing is the only thing which is really better. It's a mess. I'm wondering, when the shareholders finally find out. | 04:41:50 |
Abel | Is it any different than financial and commerce companies generating scores for customers based on their income and spending habits? | 08:44:54 |
threeletteracronym | It does feel kinda creepy, when your car is spying on you. You're not experiencing the surveillance so immediately with card payments, I guess? Most people don't really know about that or at least tend to forget, even if somebody told them once. You probably can't forget that about your car. | 08:47:32 |
Nathan GP (he) | It is honestly not that different from the idea of generating an "insight" especially if the score generation is happening client side in the vehicle itself... Rather then sending all the telemetry to the cloud for permanent storage forever of every time you hit the breaks a microsecond too late... | 10:53:25 |
threeletteracronym | Actually, I think it does just that. Additionally. | 10:54:24 |
Nathan GP (he) | For the problem is a slippery slope, that brings us to a moment where you aren't allowed to drive your car because their blackbox algorithm decides you aren't a good enough driver... And perhaps in fact, it wasn't you driving but your child or spouse or a friend who borrowed you car... And then, what, do we had biometrics too? | 10:55:13 |
Nathan GP (he) | It is definitely worth studying.... So tla, are you signed up, or what?! Can we sponsor you?! :) | 10:56:09 |
