@thomas_helzle:matrix.org | Ok, I'll try to make it. Cheers! | 14:24:05 |
catweasel | If I can, I'll try and get my vl timeline working and show that, it works slightly differently, as it is takes its lead from lighting desks, so you have cues/presets with multiple values in, with fade time/types, it means that when you trigger one, it changes from the current fade postion, which means that, it is none linear, and any values not defined don't change, so with multiple timelines/cue stacks, you can chase colours, and movements for example separately. Its made for improvising, rather than just playing things sequentially. But keyframe wise I've taken some things from afx. I was pretty happy functionally, I just keep breaking it with RCP/elemanta/gamma updates etc :D | 16:07:38 |
phlegma | Would be create to see it if you get it running. | 16:46:20 |
@thomas_helzle:matrix.org | * Ah, interesting, yeah, a banner would be good, all explanations so far I've seen just install on the fly and that worked for me in pretty much all cases. But I seem to need to restart VVVV every now and then anyway, it often get's "confused"... | 20:53:06 |

sunep | catweasel: Maybe you can demo it at the next meeting, either in good old Beta or in fancy gamma. There could be a potential for avoiding double work. | 11:20:34 |

azeno | tiny little improvement once 6.0 is out: https://github.com/KairosResearchLab/Kairos/pull/299 | 13:31:26 |
@thomas_helzle:matrix.org | Is that something that could make Kairos potentially more reliable? We had many occasions where after a patch save and restart of VVVV we lost keyframes or connnections, once even a full track. | 14:16:49 |

azeno | For sure not on purpose :( | 11:16:09 |

@thomas_helzle:matrix.org | In a recent talk, Alex Guevara showed how he uses the VEZÉR timeline with TD. That looks quite interesting, but I don't have a mac so can't try it. https://imimot.com/vezer/ This is the talk: https://www.youtube.com/live/_UqHvq1RcLQ?si=unH69dT4ZF7lWvO2&t=3850 He talks about it towards the end of his segment. | 00:17:56 |

sunep | I looks like you posted a corrupted YouTube link.
can you post it again? | 14:02:20 |
@thomas_helzle:matrix.org | Works for me? | 19:57:26 |
@thomas_helzle:matrix.org | It contains the starting point of his talk so you don't have to search for it. | 19:59:00 |

@thomas_helzle:matrix.org | I'm using "Element" Desktop as a matrix client if that should make a difference? | 09:51:53 |
sunep | weird, now it works | 11:59:12 |

TremensS | Anyone heard/tried Ossia also?
https://ossia.io/
It's got a lot of public funding here in France, and vvvv even has its logo on the supported OSC clients | 11:13:07 |
TremensS | I think worth being added to the benchmark! | 11:13:42 |
sunep | I tried it out a few years ago in competition with Chataigne. I looks super cool, but I had some crashes when parameters came out of range in the timeline | 13:11:28 |
sunep | so after battling crashes, I went with chataigne | 13:11:58 |
sunep | but that is two years ago, so it is probably more stable now | 13:13:16 |
ain | I tried Ossia with vvvv and it was nice, but with an external timeline it's not possible to render NRT | 13:25:49 |
TremensS | In reply to @sunep:matrix.org but that is two years ago, so it is probably more stable now Yeah same thing, it was about two years ago, and on my side opening Ossia was starting and popping up windows for every single VST installed on my machine 🫠
We do use Châtaigne as well for show control but rather as a centralized state machine, I didn't feel quite at home with the interface for more fine timeline-based work like I would in a DAW. That's why I'm excited to see Kairos back on tracks 🚀
For now the smoothest workflow I have is via Reaper, sticking with MIDI; curve editing is really unbeatable there
| 13:42:36 |
@thomas_helzle:matrix.org | I remember trying that one and it was rather buggy. Just tried again and it crashed several times. As for external timeline/rendering: In theory it could probably be synced with OSC/Link or Midi, although those aren't normally meant for such offline tasks. | 14:58:39 |
@thomas_helzle:matrix.org | But Alex Guevara in his talk also showed how he exports the timeline data from Vézer and sanitises the import in TD. TD at least has a timeline, although nobody seems to like it from what I gather. | 15:00:00 |
@thomas_helzle:matrix.org | Some seem to use Bitwig and the Bitwig integration as a timeline in TD. | 15:00:41 |
@thomas_helzle:matrix.org | Which basically is OSC mostly AFAIK. | 15:00:56 |
@thomas_helzle:matrix.org | There also was "Duration" but that seems long abandoned. | 15:02:24 |
