Ryo | I don't know if I can ask it here but do you guys buy Japanese music from online stores like Mora etc? I heard it's very complicated if not impossible for people who are not in Japan 😕 | 13:06:24 |

SilSinn9821 | In reply to @ryo_10:matrix.org I don't know if I can ask it here but do you guys buy Japanese music from online stores like Mora etc? I heard it's very complicated if not impossible for people who are not in Japan 😕 Based on my own personal experience, I found it easier to buy commercial Japanese music from CDJapan, Amazon Japan, or YesAsia (if it still exists) as none of them requires you to use a proxy service to ship the CDs to your non-Japanese address. | 06:46:33 |
SilSinn9821 | Both CDJapan & Amazon JP have English interfaces (indeed, CDJapan is just the international frontpage for the Japanese-language-only Neowing store) so buying from them should be a no-brainer (unless you live in a country to which JapanPost suspended shipments because of either COVID-19 or the Russian-Ukrainian War). & YesAsia (which is based in US & imports its stock directly from Japanese sources) is entirely in English & buying from it should be no different from buying from any online USA store like Best Buy, Target, or Walmart. | 06:50:55 |
SilSinn9821 | Now, if you ask about buying doujin (not commercial) Japanese music, then that’s a different story because most doujin music is only sold in Japanese stores that don’t ship overseas (& may not even have English UIs either); in that case you will definitely need a proxy service (Buyee, WorldShopping, ZenMarket, etc.) to import such rare kind of CDs (not to mention that proxying also translates to higher costs in the end, unless you are combining shipments from several different stores). | 06:54:43 |
SilSinn9821 | More than half of my physical J-Pop collection was bought through either Amazon JP or CDJapan, & maybe one or two of my albums were bought from YesAsia. A few ones may have been bought from eBay listings (I don’t remember). One of my doujin CDs was bought through the now-defunct PaletWeb store in 2009, while another one was proxied through a middleman who used to frequently travel between USA & Japan & buy directly from physical shops or even Comiket events (I think he stopped doing this when coronavirus happened); most recently, I proxied through Tenso (who requires that you submit plenty of legal documentation before you can use its services) to import a doujin CD from MelonBooks while at the same time I used Discogs to buy a set of out-of-print CDs from a Japanese seller who advertised there. | 07:03:07 |

Diz | yeah, I've ordered cds from amazon japan before. I'd say it's the least complicated way since it's fast and they take care of customs for you | 00:01:54 |
