@mikemoore:matrix.orgmikemooreDoes anyone know which matrix client is currently the best on Debian in terms of being packaged as a .deb file through a repository? Just looking for something that will update as easily as Telegram, Wire, Signal, etc.04:00:07
@lindalap:matrix.orgLinda I don't understand, mikemoore. If you package something once, then it as easy or as painful to update the package source. Installing a .deb package is no diferent anytime. 07:38:10
@paulvt:matrix.orgpaulvtI think they mean any cliean from some PPA/APT repo somewhere so it gets automatically updated.. if you just download a custom .deb from somewhere it will not get updated07:43:06
@paulvt:matrix.orgpaulvtPersonally I am waiting for Fractal to be packaged just in Debian itself, the necessary libs are getting there07:43:59
@paulvt:matrix.orgpaulvtI'm using the flatpak in the meantime, which I deem better than a random deb for now07:44:17
@mikemoore:matrix.orgmikemooreYes I meant something that would add a repository to sources and get updated with the rest of the system. I save compiling for FreeBSD and Arch instances. Quaternion (sp?) is sufficient on Arch but does not have Debian packages.08:17:10
@kitsune:matrix.orgkitsuneQuaternion is packaged but its update cycle is a bit slow upstream and even slower in Debian.08:58:06
@kitsune:matrix.orgkitsuneBut from the formal perspective Quaternion has you covered :)08:58:43
@paulvt:matrix.orgpaulvtOops, because matrix-synapse meta-package from Matrix deb repo is still 0.34, when upgrading to Buster I got downgraded from 1.0.0+stretch1 (from Matrix) to 0.99.2-6 (from Debian) and now it can't understand the database schema... ☹11:34:38
@richvdh:sw1v.orgrichvdhugh, that is a problem11:54:23

Did you install an apt_preferences(5) file?
11:56:34
@richvdh:sw1v.orgrichvdhfiled as https://github.com/matrix-org/synapse/issues/559011:56:44
@paulvt:matrix.orgpaulvtNo I didn't, I did now 😉11:57:12
@paulvt:matrix.orgpaulvt Thanks, richvdh, I was also indeed confused at first with the matrix-synapse-py3 package when I started testing stuff out 11:58:11
@paulvt:matrix.orgpaulvtHeh, wrote almost the same preferences file, only with prio 51011:58:54

@paulvt:matrix.orgpaulvtIs it the plan to have 1.1.0 in buster-backports eventually?11:11:35
@lindalap:matrix.orgLindaprobably18:35:38
@paulvt:matrix.orgpaulvtNice ☺18:36:54
@lindalap:matrix.orgLinda More speciifically, whatever happens to be in testing at the time of backporting 18:42:48
