@shirish:matrix.orgshirishfirst up software software is told two times but even then it's too much of information for a user. 05:58:04
@shirish:matrix.orgshirishwhat it should say is what will happen if the user accepts or denies the request which is not addressed. 05:59:11
@shirish:matrix.orgshirish it's only when I run $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure matrix-archive-keyring then it breaks up the dialog boxes so they make some sense. 06:01:32
@shirish:matrix.orgshirisha normal user will never know what he has signed up for. 06:01:46
@max:kamax.ioMaximusLinda: ty, will try in a little bit10:38:10
@lindalap:matrix.orgLinda

shirish: Good points. I fixed the typo and will reword that a bit.

shirish: Fyi, debconf(1) templates like above cannot have suggestions based on assumptions such as "if X, choose yes". It's because the application displaying the message may have checkboxes instead of "yes"/"no", for example.

@lindalap:matrix.orgLinda

So it may be a bit difficult

I figured the meaning of "APT" is never explained in that dialog.

14:19:45
@andrewsh:matrix.organdrewsh s/APT // should do 14:23:41
@andrewsh:matrix.organdrewsh
Packages from those sources …
14:23:50
@andrewsh:matrix.organdrewshreads totally fine14:23:54
@andrewsh:matrix.organdrewsh these, even 14:24:14
@lindalap:matrix.orgLinda

I totally just took the word "APT data sources" from sources.list(5) man page.

14:24:18
@lindalap:matrix.orgLinda

It was "those" initially, but I changed it to "these" at some point. I guess "those" is better.

14:25:55
@andrewsh:matrix.organdrewshI have no opinion on that14:26:06
@andrewsh:matrix.organdrewshthose and these both sound fine to me14:26:13
@andrewsh:matrix.organdrewshbut I’m not a native speaker14:26:17
@andrewsh:matrix.organdrewshthese might be slightly better…14:26:32
@lindalap:matrix.orgLinda

Maximus: By the way, I totally forgot to say I whitelisted only Debian and Ubuntu for the "Use APT data sources from Matrix.org?" question. If you don't see it on Linux Mint, that's okay.

@max:kamax.ioMaximusok14:38:16
@max:kamax.ioMaximusty for the follow up14:38:16
@lindalap:matrix.orgLinda

It just means you'll have to configure it manually.

14:38:36
@max:kamax.ioMaximusyep, that's fine14:45:54
@max:kamax.ioMaximusmy servers are on Debian, so that won't be a problem. I was just testing on a dev machine14:46:11
@max:kamax.ioMaximus Linda: Thank you very much for doing all the hard work on this - this is very helpful and appreciated 14:47:01
@lindalap:matrix.orgLinda

Thank you for testing and finding it useful. 😊

_Description: Use APT data sources from Matrix.org?
 The APT package management system may be configured to download supplemental
 packages from the Matrix.org package archives. These packages are digitally
 signed with keys from matrix-archive-keyring, but may require software outside
 of your system's distribution to either build or function.
 .
 Packages from these sources may not be up to par with the technical
 requirements set in the Debian Policy for distributed packages.

Is this wording any better?

14:54:37
@andrewsh:matrix.organdrewshI’d also say additional, not supplemental, but that’s just me14:57:02
@lindalap:matrix.orgLinda

Debian Policy called it supplemental, so I did
