Linda | Could you please give this a go? If nothing is grave or seriously wrong, I'll upload +debian1 once I wake up | 04:22:07 |
Linda | Maximus: ^ | 04:22:18 |
Linda | If you're testing, please apt-get purge matrix-archive-keyring first to be sure.
Same as before, but two new things:
- It will prompt you just before removing "bad" APT keys. (Abuse
apt-key add first.) It explains better why it removes them.
- It will install
/etc/apt/preferences.d/matrix.pref (or whatever is in the apt-config for that path).

shirish | first up software software is told two times but even then it's too much of information for a user. | 05:58:04 |
shirish | what it should say is what will happen if the user accepts or denies the request which is not addressed. | 05:59:11 |
shirish | it's only when I run $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure matrix-archive-keyring then it breaks up the dialog boxes so they make some sense. | 06:01:32 |
shirish | a normal user will never know what he has signed up for. | 06:01:46 |
Maximus | Linda: ty, will try in a little bit | 10:38:10 |
Linda | shirish: Good points. I fixed the typo and will reword that a bit. | 14:08:19 |
Linda | shirish: Fyi, debconf(1) templates like above cannot have suggestions based on assumptions such as "if X, choose yes". It's because the application displaying the message may have checkboxes instead of "yes"/"no", for example. | 14:16:21 |
Linda | So it may be a bit difficult | 14:16:40 |
Linda | I figured the meaning of "APT" is never explained in that dialog. | 14:19:45 |
andrewsh | s/APT // should do | 14:23:41 |
andrewsh |
Packages from those sources …
| 14:23:50 |
andrewsh | reads totally fine | 14:23:54 |
andrewsh | these , even | 14:24:14 |
Linda | I totally just took the word "APT data sources" from sources.list(5) man page. | 14:24:18 |
Linda | It was "those" initially, but I changed it to "these" at some point. I guess "those" is better. | 14:25:55 |
andrewsh | I have no opinion on that | 14:26:06 |
andrewsh | those and these both sound fine to me | 14:26:13 |
andrewsh | but I’m not a native speaker | 14:26:17 |
andrewsh | these might be slightly better… | 14:26:32 |
Linda | Maximus: By the way, I totally forgot to say I whitelisted only Debian and Ubuntu for the "Use APT data sources from Matrix.org?" question. If you don't see it on Linux Mint, that's okay. | 14:30:03 |
