ducklipsndeuces | Bnyro: I still haven't bothered learning kotlin (by bothered, I mean my whole life/mental health is a mess and I haven't made time). Could you tell me how good or bad the "convert to kotlin" functionality in android studio and/or intellij studio? | 00:04:11 |
ducklipsndeuces | Any insight would be appreciated, am leery of any IDE's auto-conversions and will accept any pointers. I'll justify bothering the you-apps room by referencing ~further~ "contributions" to any of them. π
(I say that jokingly knowing how little I've contributed). | 00:07:22 |

Could you tell me how good or bad the "convert to kotlin" functionality in android studio and/or intellij studio? It converts line by line, so the Kotlin code looks very ugly in the end and could be simplified a lot by using Kotlin's extension functions, removing type annotations, etc | 08:10:57 |
Bnyro | The good thing is that the code still works after the conversion in most cases | 08:11:30 |

Thank you for this. I trust your opinion, particularly in this regard. | 08:52:03 |

yutsukaπ΄ββ οΈπ³οΈββ§οΈπ³οΈβππΊπΈπΊπ² | Probably not, the devs are overworked | 04:56:09 |

@mammal:private.coffee | Any expected date of new release for connect you (with dailer, etc) | 04:30:24 |
ducklipsndeuces | In reply to @mammal:private.coffee Any expected date of new release for connect you (with dailer, etc) Not at this time. Iirc, the You apps were a side/pet project started from the personal needs/uses of the devs themselves and were just kind enough to share. I believe they've grown busy with school, jobs, life, etc. | 04:56:03 |

I don't want to speak for the devs, this is just what I recall as being the case for these apps. They work on them when they can/want. | 04:59:48 |

If you're handy with a computer and can follow simple build instructions (easily googled, or even guessed at through menu options), one can feel free to compile the apps themselves using the live code (which can often have newer features committed to it than were included in the most recent releases). | 05:08:01 |
ducklipsndeuces | In reply to @khalidduel:matrix.org That's ok For instance, gauging by the commit history of connect you (https://github.com/you-apps/ConnectYou), it appears there is basic dialer functionality merged into the code. I think the devs just have particular testing and quality requirements they adhere to prior to publishing official releases. | 05:09:29 |
ducklipsndeuces | Their projects (in my experience) have been very clean and easy to compile "out of the box", using android studio (which is also free). | 05:10:29 |
Khalid Duel | Will they accept pull requests if I add a new feature like this? | 05:12:37 |
ducklipsndeuces | In reply to @khalidduel:matrix.org Will they accept pull requests if I add a new feature like this? They've accepted mine in the past, and I believe they welcome any and all new contributions. https://github.com/you-apps/VibeYou/pull/68 | 05:14:20 |
