A Farewell to my Shadow
Today has been a hard day to take. I got up this morning and as I was getting out of bed I was careful not to put my feet down on the floor to quick as to avoid stepping on my friend. Not to worry you were not there. I next went to take a shower as I was closing the door I paused to make sure you were not in the doorway. Again you were not there. Well I quick turned on the coffee pot and went down stairs to let you out. Again you were not there. So back up stairs to get a cup of coffee and a coat. Back down stairs to open the door to the patio I waited for you because I know how upset you get when I go out first. Still no you. Outside on the patio with a cup of coffee and a smoke I watched the sun rise and looked down to my right and you were gone. For seven and a half years we have been working on this routine together yesterday at 1:00pm I held you for the last time. I watched as your life slipped away to sleep. I buried you behind the big barn by Chip, Sadie, Ike, and Domino. I laid you on a bed of fresh cedar chips, next to I left you a six pack of your favorite beer three large jerky sticks and a bowl of peanuts your favorite toy "the Hipo" your bedding and a pillow. P.S. I grabbed one of those red potatoes out of the garden for you. So I guess it's up to me to continue on with or daily routine 30 minutes down 1050 more to go until tomorrow. Summer on its way and I certain to be missing the best foot warmer I have ever had the privilege to call a friend. Well Good Guarding to you and may you case off a intruder, a day no make it two.
