SerkanDevel | There needs to be more UX designers on board | 11:23:41 |
SerkanDevel | and mybe a namechange | 11:23:49 |
Valodim | There needed to be any ux designer in board, or even anyone looking over any casual user's shoulder trying to figure out e2e. Fortunately, that has been fixed by now | 11:25:01 |
Valodim | Another one to the pile of evidence that it's incredibly hard to keep perspective while high pressure working on something | 11:26:37 |
Matthew | In reply to @AndresCuccaro:matrix.org I guess it musn't be easy to develop tte protocol, apps for every platform, and working in Synapse at the same time. this. | 13:03:56 |
Matthew | In reply to @Valodim:stratum0.org Another one to the pile of evidence that it's incredibly hard to keep perspective while high pressure working on something this also :| | 13:05:00 |
Matthew | In reply to @SerkanDevel:matrix.org and mybe a namechange yup, a name change will clearly fix the UX overnight.... :| | 13:05:27 |
Valodim | name is fine | 13:06:02 |
Valodim | never heard anyone complain about that, at least, and people do seem to use it without inhibition :) | 13:07:17 |
Valodim | talking about perspective: all those complaints are on a really high level. Matrix's overall UX is better than XMPP ever was. That people are even talking about how it compares to discord is a huge compliment! | 13:12:01 |
@swedneck | communities are the big thing missing for discord feature-parity | 13:47:41 |

Nils | In reply to @Valodim:stratum0.org talking about perspective: all those complaints are on a really high level. Matrix's overall UX is better than XMPP ever was. That people are even talking about how it compares to discord is a huge compliment! That's a good point, and I agree that considering how slow most other open source projects are when it comes to UX improvements, Riot has been great. Think Thunderbird, GnuPG, Pidgin, etc... glacial speeds. But for Riot to become a mainstream tool, regular folks will inevitably compare it to what they know from the commercial competitors -- Slack, Skype, Discord, etc. So that's the new standard, UX wise (not privacy- or architecture-wise of course). It's great that we've reached this point, but we also got to keep moving. | 06:06:27 |
Nils | Redacted or Malformed Event | 06:07:46 |
Nils | (I sound more critical than I actually feel about Riot's UX. I'm just trying to relay what I have seen when onboarding non-technical teams onto this platform. The things they are confused by are incredibly basic) | 06:08:12 |
SerkanDevel | > yup, a name change will clearly fix the UX overnight.... :|
Maybe not overnight but in the long run | 06:13:54 |
/dev/ponies | In reply to @Valodim:stratum0.org talking about perspective: all those complaints are on a really high level. Matrix's overall UX is better than XMPP ever was. That people are even talking about how it compares to discord is a huge compliment! i've gotten people to use matrix that would never in a million years use XMPP, so this is definitely true | 06:33:21 |

letmp | Hello! I am running an own server with riot web. Is there a good resource of riot themes anywhere? The standard themes have to less contrast for me | 10:12:12 |
uhoreg | letmp: https://github.com/vector-im/riot-web/blob/master/docs/theming.md | 14:13:43 |
buck | i'm having trouble with the slack integration, it's sending messages from riot -> slack channel but not receiving any back. (this should probably be in another room, sorry) | 17:11:11 |
uhoreg | It probably belongs more in #bridges:matrix.org | 17:15:42 |

Creak | What's the official theme for the new experimental UX? Is it still the default theme or is it the 2018 theme? | 00:36:26 |
tulir | 2018 theme is the one you have to use for it to work | 00:36:47 |
Creak | 👍 | 00:36:55 |
Creak | I love the new font! so much more readable! | 00:39:32 |
Creak | and the overall seems to have a way better use of the space, I really like it! | 00:40:09 |
Creak | a long time ago (before the redesign was started) I proposed that the rooms had rounded square shaped avatars while people had circle shapes (like we have currently).
It would help to distinguish more easily rooms and people (also, people regular rooms from people rooms since people rooms could use circle shapes as well).
Now that the Riot team are experimenting with a new design, could it be tested?? | 00:44:43 |
tulir | no | 00:45:08 |
