.echostorm | I see at one point you were using stereo kit, what was the final option you went with and why? | 21:49:16 |
.echostorm | in my case I have to figure out my setup for the 2 panels... | 21:51:33 |
6ax3dc | so stereokit and monado work on different layers. monado is the runtime that speaks to your hardware, and stereokit is to create applications, using the runtime. so I use both. and on top I want it to run stardust, which is a layer above stereokit to build higher level programs | 21:55:30 |
.echostorm | I see, I also saw your doing full body tracking, im also doing that but it seems my setup is very different in the approach im taking. | 21:57:09 |
.echostorm | for body tracking im using a 240 fps camera thats tracking full body including fingers, and second camera is for position tracking, while my display is using beamsplitters for stereo capability that way the whole screen is being used instead of splitting it in half or using 2 smaller displays like your doing. I hope I can get to point where I have a fully functioning HMD..... | 21:59:26 |
.echostorm | I used mediapipe for AI and with the high speed fps its much better than what they use now with webcams | 22:00:30 |
.echostorm | global shutter 240fps even ultraleap cant match the accuracy and speed + its cheaper I beleive than slime vr. only down side is you have to have some form of vest that user must wear to have the camera pointed towards him at all times which I know some might not like! but hey its dirt cheap ^^ | 22:03:56 |
haagch | you do hand tracking with mediapipe and it's good? interesting | 23:31:15 |
haagch | well monado is meant to enable these kind of headsets, but windows support still needs a bit of work. generally there is a steamvr plugin that I believe somewhat works, with the remaining main issue being that someone needs to figure out what to tell steamvr about the display, like https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/monado/monado/-/issues/311 | 23:33:26 |

.echostorm | Yes choosing the right camera capability makes a huge difference, im now trying out forking a version of steamvr plugin from Relativty and modifying for my use case scenario | 00:42:21 |

haagch | relativty was also made by high school students, as an industry professional with many years experience it's easy to dunk on that. Let's see if they matured with Unai if it ever comes out. | 13:17:49 |
haagch | what's a failure or not is subjective. some people say SteamVR's motion interpolation is bad and they prefer not to use it. Afaik SteamVR has no depth based 6dof reprojection. There are a couple of people here for whom monado's 3dof reprojection is good enough for their own use. | 13:28:10 |
haagch | there is the openwarp based poc branch for 6dof reprojection in monado that is like 90% ready. currently there's no push for finishing it, but if reprojection was to become a blocker, we could push it forward | 13:29:25 |
