glb:

Server WG: The websites and apps team is thinking about adding/promoting links to the "Everything" network installer on fp.o.

We do not like to promote the "everything" installation. This compromises the concept of editions and primarily serves as a way out on the sole live disk installation for Workstation.

Please at least remove "Server" as an installation option! This will not install a server edition. All default and pre-configurations contained on the Server Install medium are missing. Call it "minimal" or "without GUI", but definitely not Server.

@glb:fedora.imglbI think we can hold off on adding the link to the everything installer if there are concerns about it. We are seeing users requesting though, so I'm not sure.14:15:35
@glb:fedora.imglb As for removing "server", I have no influence with that. It is one of the dnf installation groups isn't it (i.e. what shows up in dnf group list)? I would expect that this working group would have the ability to control what that group is named and what packages it does or does not contain. 14:18:18

@pboy:fedora.imPeter BoyWell, the everything DVD was never meant to be a primary installation medium. If we now promote it and many users start to use it, we compromise the various focuses of the editions, and effectively compromise our fedora.next concept. And that creates problems. Even the server documentation no longer fits, neither the installation guide nor the administration guides. So, before we (i.e. websites and apps team)start to promote everything installation media and put it in a prominent place, we have to resolve that issue. Just to remove server should not be a problem at all. We just need to know who is the owner and responsible for it. 15:16:22
@darknao:fedora.imdarknaothe goal is not to promote the Everything installer as a primary download. In fact, "promote" might be a big word here. We only plan to add a link to the everything installer somewhere, on fedoraproject.org website (at this point, there is no reference to that artifact anywhere, except on alt.fp-o)15:22:02
@pboy:fedora.imPeter BoyWell, even the placement as it is now, creates issues. Some provider who rent root servers, offer (of offered) Fedora, but use everything as default installation. And that does not result in a Fedora Server but in a Workstation pre-configuration with server functions on top. It's missleading and results in frustration and disappointment. The text on alt.fpo.org say "all" which is simply wrong. You can't install cloud, coreos, iot, not even a desktop as silverblue. You can't even install a "real" Fedora Server, even if it is included in the menu (without a number of additional steps that are not documented anywhere). So at least, instead of "all" it should be "all workstation and spins". And even better, should we just leave it out, or move it to the bottom of the page. 16:35:23

yes, that's exactly what we would like to fix in the new version of the alt.fp-o page and it's what we meant by "promoting" Everything: It's stating exactly what Everything is (and what it's not) in a clearer (and more accurate) way that it is right now. But we don't want to make it a primary option, or a more important one that it's currently is. That also include making clear it should not be used for a Fedora Server install (and link to the actual Server net install for that purpose)
