@rails11326206827:matrix.org | Do you guys host your own email service or use specific service? Lots of self hosted apps have an email option for sending emails for notifications but I dont want/need that info going through say a Gmail account. I like keeping the data private. Any suggestions? | 17:43:51 |

ifiguero | Depends if you are looking for a mailbox to receive incoming email to your domain or if you just want to deliver your mail to destination using your domain. | 19:23:06 |
ifiguero | Those are two different scenarios. What is often a pain is to provide mailboxes | 19:23:45 |
@hashborgir:mozilla.org | I use Exim4 and Proxmox Mail Gateway to send mails. | 21:06:27 |

Gandalf-Ac5 | In reply to @rails11326206827:matrix.orgI use mailcow dockerized, very easy setup, it quides you through the process for perfect email score (better than 365 default) and you can create aliases/temp emails and api keys for each service, in the last 3 years no issue so far. | 22:32:40 |

@rails11326206827:matrix.org | I guess I'm not needing a good reputation. I just wanted a simple email server so my self hosted apps could use the SMTP of it to send alert emails to my main email while I'm away. | 05:07:34 |
@rails11326206827:matrix.org | Or I could keep it all "LAN" only and just setup the mail client to read emails from there. No external service needed. | 05:08:31 |

rodolphe | In reply to @rails11326206827:matrix.orgI use my own mail server. It's a little hard if you don't already know how it works, but once you understood a few non-intuitive things it's relatively easy. | 09:59:02 |
rodolphe | In reply to @rails11326206827:matrix.orgOpenSMTPD may be a good choice then. If you're interested I wrote a guide on how to use it to set up an email server with Dovecot, rspamd and other stuff, but you shouldn't need the whole thing, in your case a simple OpenSMTPD as a relay could be enough. | 10:03:26 |
