Antonin Peronnet | Hi !
I followed the instructions to setup a matrix server on my raspberrypi, and everything worked well.
Except when I try to invite someone from another server (a bot for example) that always fail ! Is it a bug on my installation ? Some setting I didn't check ? Is there a log of invitations somewhere ? | 14:04:07 |
Antonin Peronnet | And I was not able to join any matrx server with my self hosted server ☹️ | 14:08:20 |
Stefan | Did you check your federation? | 14:08:35 |
Stefan | And, sure you followed 'my' guide, mentionend in the channel description? | 14:08:54 |
Stefan | If not, its probably better to ask in #synapse:matrix.org but be sure to check your federation as well beforehand :) | 14:09:23 |
Antonin Peronnet | sorry, what is "federation" ? | 14:10:16 |
Stefan | One of the main-points of matrix :D | 14:10:43 |
Stefan | the ability to talk from my account on my own server with another person whos registered on the other server | 14:11:08 |
Stefan | My guide is that one https://www.natrius.eu/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=digital:server:matrixsynapse and | 14:12:29 |
Stefan | https://www.natrius.eu/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=digital:server:matrixsynapse#step_10_-_federation | 14:12:43 |
Stefan | Here are 2 URL where you can check if your federation is working properly | 14:12:57 |
Antonin Peronnet | Okay I get an error: | 14:16:28 |
Antonin Peronnet | Get "https://90.21.77.24:8448/_matrix/key/v2/server": dial tcp 90.21.77.24:8448: connect: no route to host | 14:16:34 |
Antonin Peronnet | I don't understand what is the 8448 port | 14:17:40 |
Stefan | What guide did you follow? | 14:18:04 |
Antonin Peronnet | I followed the install guide on the synapse github page. In fact I came on this room by accident... I'm reading your guide and I don't know if I have to re-install everything. For me synapse is still really confusing  | 14:24:59 |

Stefan | Maybe its better if you head to #synapse:matrix.org for further help. more people with more knowledge, to be completely honest :) | 14:25:58 |
Antonin Peronnet | is "#synapse:matrix.org" a room or a set of rooms ?
because the main room is just for announcement | 14:27:04 |

Stefan | Its one room and i invited you | 14:29:18 |
Antonin Peronnet | "TCP port 8008 is the port for clients, TCP port 8448 is the federation port for HTTPS."
Ok, this is a bit more clear for me.
But do you know when do you need that exactly ?
To join rooms on other servers, to invite people from other servers maybe ?
I didn't heard about that in the docs | 14:29:20 |
Antonin Peronnet | I think I found the page I was looking for: https://github.com/matrix-org/synapse/blob/develop/docs/reverse_proxy.md | 14:32:13 |
Antonin Peronnet | thanks natrius ! | 14:33:05 |
