the relation between the two? Lineage OS i think of more like a debloated standard android, the obvious privacy critical stuff removed, google stuff not packed in, in the eyes of the mainstream opensource community something fine, something more plug&play for non technical users. Then there are idealists, nerds, people who understand that the only source of proper realistic best possible trust are theyre own eyes, logical rationel people, devs, you may call them paranoid, but also a lot of dreamers, dreamers of a more ethical software world, people who understand that they have a choice, a real choice, for some only reflected on them selfes, for others its something which they reflect to the outside world, which they propagate, directly or indirectly, activly or passivly, but they let others know, over one or the other way, "i'm a consumer. i want FOSS. i want flexibility. i want transparancy. i want privacy. i want security. or at least all of this shoul be in my repertoire of choices. " also for a lot of people this is kind of a fight for the good side in capitalism. Freedom of knowledge. freedom of information. away from the monopolys. for others its theyre freedom in capitalism to make money, its a big win for corporations when there is a solid codebase with free and open licenses on which they can start to build. from this perspective, you could propably rip lineage os apart, and use it, but if u stumble over a specific driver or blob which is proprietary and u want to change something a bit, tweak it for ur usecase, it's hard. often license and practicality wise. same if u suspect ur beeing surveillanced, who knows, 10 or 20 years from now, your gov turns evil, works against u and theyre people, and u need security. than u'll love to observe all ur code, everything running on your device, as best as possible, to make shure you dont get problems. so you could think of it a bit like a tool for the security wise robustness of society, love it or hate it, a lifebelt, like the hayfork for the farmer to rebel against his evil King if u think a bit more far. Free, uncensored, uncontrollable exchange of information, the wet dream of probably most real democrats with a small touch of socialism(meaning that everyone should have equal opportunitys for theyre live, which at least a big part of the western world sees as justice, or at least propagates it). (of cause, the foss community arent just democrats with socialist touches, i know Nazis which are dreaming of foss, just like international communists) btw, thinking that the NSA stands behind TOR, principal wise, you could also abstract it over to replicant, and say that the NSA must absolutly loves replicant, but we dont have idealism any more, ideology, so theyre probably just a big mess/mix of changing ideas, goals and tactics, which they think are best for human race :( inconsistent nitwits.
