Can I use other fediverse apps to login tho? Or is Nomad the only android client that can work with Hubzilla? Just asking if other clients exist | 19:33:32
Afaik, Nomad is the only standalone app, but it's unmaintained and somewhat outdated by now. The web site works fairly well as a PWA though, so that's probably your best bet for now. | 19:43:03
In reply to @aravindim:matrix.orgIf I understand your question correctly, I don't think so. Hubzilla does not implement the Mastodon API, so it's unlikely that apps made for Mastodon can be used as is. | 19:44:34
In reply to @snakebite:matrix.orgOh thank you. I actually thought Hubzilla implemented the protocol. | 19:56:55
In reply to @tallship:matrix.orgThanks to tallship as well for answering my question. Though I should've worded my question better for clarity. Thanks again. | 20:02:37

Depend which protocol you're talking about. ActivityPub, the protocol that servers speak to each other is also implemented in Hubzilla. So a Hubzilla server can speak to Mastodon, PeerTube and others. A Hubzilla channel can follow a Mastodon or PeerTube channel and vice versa. But the protocol that apps use to speak to Mastofon servers is not implemented in Hubzilla. Nothing prevents someone from implementing it, but as of today it isn't. | 20:07:06
(ActivityPub actually specifies a Client-to-Server protocol too, but Mastodon does not use it. Not Hubzilla either, for that matter. Personally I think that would be a cool thing to add, as it would make clients more independent of server implementations.) | 20:08:39
In reply to @snakebite:matrix.orgOh I see. That's why peeps can't use mastodon apps for Hubzilla, eh? That's cool. Ye, I agree. It would be nice if any future versions roll with that feature. | 20:11:38
Exactly. We can follow each other and talk to each other accross servers independently of which software they use, but an app written for one server type does not work for other servers. | 20:12:47
As a side note: There is actually an implementation of a twitter API in Hubzilla, but I'm not sure how up to date it is. This means that in theory you could use an app for twitter with Hubzilla if you could convince it to connect to your Hubzilla server instead of twitter. | 20:14:19
In reply to @snakebite:matrix.orgI see | 20:24:40
In reply to @snakebite:matrix.orgYe, I've seen it. Haven't tried it | 20:24:57
With the new Twitter policy changes, I'm not sure if using it is even possible | 20:25:47
As it has nothing to do with twitter that should not matter at all, but I would expect it to be rather outdated and not work with any modern apps at least. | 20:26:57
I see | 20:38:09 | |
I follow my Hubzilla account at zotum in a couple of my Fediverse accounts on other (non-Hubzilla) servers, but I specifically didn't mention Mastodon because i don't know about that, as Harold just mentioned π The process is a bit non-trivial though, and I start by making a "connection" (aka following someone) from my Hubzilla account, and if it's myself, send myself a message to that remote (non-Hubzilla) Fediverse server. Then, from the other end, i follow my Hubzilla account back. I hope that's not clear as mud. Again, you have to enable the ActivityPub add-on in your Hubzilla user account to speak ActivityPub and interact with those Fediverse users. At least where my account is located, that add-on is NOT enabled by default when you first register an account on a Hubzilla server and you must do so manually. As far as Android apps, I use two (primarily) - Fedilab for several of the server types I listed above, and Relatica for my Friendica account. I'm able to follow and interact with my (ActivityPub enabled) Hubzilla account from either app - but no, you cannot sign into your Hubzilla account from those apps. If you want to search back through the room here, we've covered the Nomad app several times in detail, and last I checked you could still get it from F-Droid, but it's been a few years since any development occurred with it. So, on another note. I can use my Friendica account no problem with Fedilab, but Relatica ONLY works with Friendica and no other Fediverse platforms. So the other Fediverse accounts I follow (have created a connection for) using my Hubzilla account, I see them no prob in my stream and often boost, reply, etc. Like Harold said too, Hubzilla (like most things with a web interface nowadays) is a PWA so it's pretty full featured anyway in your phone's interface and you can install the client side directly from logging into your Hubzilla account. When you login, you should see an initial invitation on your Android to install it into your launcher screen. After that, it's a simple one press launch to open your Hubzilla account. I hope that helps. | 20:43:06
In reply to @tallship:matrix.orgI see. Kinda got a gist of it. Thanks | 21:11:10

Just upgraded my Hubzilla instance to 8.6 - but it's broken now. Have to check the log files... Oh boy. | 09:46:52
Hiker: Found the problem - upgrade did something with .htaccess - please don't do this! | 10:28:47

No problems with that update here. And a good hint to watch .htaccess every once in a while | 07:40:59

Is there a way for the Stream to hold its place so when you tap to comment or view comments on a post and you go back to the Stream it doesn't go all the way back to the top? I'm mostly talking about using Hubzilla on mobile, but I think it does this on desktop as well. | 10:23:21
Don't think so at the moment. | 12:35:24 |
