Hello kings_daughter!! Does anyone have knowledge on freeze drying fresh veggies?
I know several people who use one sold at Cabellas...sorry I don't have the name...its a near commercial grade that has probably 8 trays(going from memeory) would sit on the countertop.

And does any one recommend a good dehydrator!!!

Our family just bought a Biochef dehydrator. They're Australian but supply globally. They certainly aren't the cheapest but they make commerical sized units so I figured the domestic ones will be easy to repair. We're happy with it but have only used it a little while. Our model lacks the "keep dry" setting others have in the range. I've also had a former Special Op's person recommend basic cheaies from ebay, as they're easily replaced. Just depends if you want stainless steel over PVC and temperature adjustment. The BioChefs come with good recipies for all, including meat jerkies.

If you have space, my plan soon is to build a passive dehydrator. Essentially an old filing cabinet with a solar collector (black sheet of metal covered with glass in a box with vent holes at the bottom) that vents

My main complaint with "fancier" models (BioChefs included) is the temp and timer circuits and touch buttons are probably the first to fail. Cheap units without thermostats and timers are on-or-off, will draw more power but have less to go wrong. Our BioCheck Kalahari 8 tray uses upto 800w but averages 500w (measured) for a 24hr cycle.

If you have space, my plan soon is to build a passive dehydrator. Essentially an old filing cabinet with a solar collector (black sheet of metal covered with glass in a box with vent holes at the bottom) that vents

@kings_daughter:matrix.orgkings_daughterI just ran across Daisy Luther, an interesting lady who has spent years as a prepper, born out of times of financial crisis when she had children to feed and care for. She is now in her 50s and shares what she has learned on websites and books: https://www.theorganicprepper.com/ https://daisyluther.com/ https://www.simonandschuster.com/authors/Daisy-Luther/154622246 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Daisy-Luther/e/B00QO8RT4W 19:41:34
