envita | * Our family just bought a Biochef dehydrator. They're Australian but supply globally. They certainly aren't the cheapest but they make commerical sized units so I figured the domestic ones will be easy to repair. We're happy with it but have only used it a little while. Our model lacks the "keep dry" setting others have in the range. I've also had a former Special Op's person recommend basic cheapies from ebay, as they're easily replaced. Just depends if you want stainless steel over PVC and temperature adjustment. The BioChefs come with good recipies for all, including meat jerkies. My main complaint with "fancier" models (BioChefs included) is the temp and timer circuits and touch buttons are probably the first to fail. Cheap units without thermostats and timers are on-or-off, will draw more power but have less to go wrong. Our BioCheck Kalahari 8 tray uses upto 800w but averages 500w (measured) for a 24hr cycle.
If you have space, my plan soon is to build a passive dehydrator. Essentially an old filing cabinet with a solar collector (black sheet of metal covered with glass in a box with vent holes at the bottom) that vents heat up into the cabinet.

kings_daughter | In reply to @hs-reloaded:matrix.org https://wallabygoods.com/products/5-gallon-mylar-zipper-bag-bundle Do you have a good source for oxygen absorbers at a good price? I have asked for them in stores locally and nobody knows what I'm talking about. | 00:43:21 |
