Maximus | That Riot is a real problem in terms of privacy for nearly all Matrix users, as they do not know what is happening and which data is shared continiously | 18:35:13 |
Nomagic | hmm, ok | 18:37:50 |
Nomagic | so it could/should be clearer in the app, but otherwise the code being FOSS and all web stuff, one could know what is happening. Or is it about Matrix.org issue mostly? (Cloudflare) | 18:47:05 |
Maximus | it's the behaviour of the app, the default settings of the app, the settings that can't be overwritten in some cases and where the data is going | 18:48:25 |
Maximus | I might do a write up about it, I don't know yet if it's worth it given the bullying I got just for challenging the spec | 18:51:52 |
@olmari:hacklab.fi | One shouldn't be afraid of bullying.. I know it feels shit and don't know the details, while I do know general gist of it in this case...
I also know writing this stuff, or "saying it aloud" can be so unthankful thing, but sometismes it is what general public needs, not what deserves... | 18:55:07 |
@olmari:hacklab.fi | No one ofcourse forces you to write anything, just aying that in general some of us appreciate another perspective, but peoples rarely say thanks, but often barks | 18:56:15 |
Nomagic | Well if you do, I'll surely be interested in reading it (though I don't want to trigger any flame war). In any case from what I could read, no matter the tension between Matrix.org and this community, the previous discussions actually helped to bring some changes on their goto tools and third-party links/tools. | 18:56:28 |
Maximus | Thank you for the supportive words :) I'll see if I can master the energy to do so | 18:58:15 |
@olmari:hacklab.fi | I don't blindly trust any one thing like taking "as is", but honest opinions and sane challenging of things are only a good thing, if other end can't handle it, that's their problem | 18:58:20 |
Nomagic | 100% agrees with olmari | 18:58:57 |
Nomagic | Keep up the good work, I'm gonna give mxsid a spin in the meantime π | 18:59:44 |
Maximus | π thanks! | 19:00:02 |
@olmari:hacklab.fi | Redacted or Malformed Event | 19:03:10 |
@olmari:hacklab.fi | Redacted or Malformed Event | 19:03:32 |
@olmari:hacklab.fi | My view is that Maximus doesn't hate matrix protocol. but quite the contrary and that's why has opinions about it.. Then there are separately the stuff Nev Vector does and handles things.... and/or current matrix-org "staff".. They should be able to take sne critisism and learn from that... On other extreme I don't care about needless nonsensical bashing they get too at certain places... for the record :) | 19:04:29 |
Half-Shot | I think I can say for sure that a lot of people have strong feelings about it, rather than being extreme on either side | 19:05:01 |
Half-Shot | Strong feelings are usually good for the development of protocols, if people didn't have them then there would be no driving force :). Personally I like to poke holes in matrix, but then go ahead and fix the ones I can too. | 19:06:25 |
@olmari:hacklab.fi | Opinioins, even strong ones, are sometimes needed... pointless hatred is not, to any direction.. Too often, for some and talking in generally, opinions become hatred and then senseless bashing.. and after awhile all the (sensical ones too) opinions start to feel like bashing... and hten stuff are, if not doomed, driving that one person feeling like not worth doing or developing stuff in this case.. and that is the thing needs to be avoided | 19:08:58 |
Maximus | In any case, thank you for the supportive words. We'll see how I feel about exposing myself again. There isn't much that can be done after banning me of course, but eh, who knows. | 19:12:47 |
@olmari:hacklab.fi | Wish you all the best :) | 19:15:35 |
@park:mgp.ax.lt | Did you get banned? Where from? | 22:52:16 |
@tulir:maunium.net | +matrix:matrix.org rooms | 22:55:11 |
@park:mgp.ax.lt | I see. Well i know that matrix has some issues regarding functionality. Issues that are present on github and being basically ignored and averted.
I hope this wont push you away from this project (mxids and matrix in general), max. | 23:03:28 |
@aaron:raim.ist | Well I assume eventually mxisd will implement The Grid rather than Matrix (assuming The Grid Protocol needs an mxisd like thing) | 23:09:25 |

@lindalap:matrix.org | In reply to @park:mgp.ax.lt Did you get banned? Where from? Afaik Maximus' ban never showed up in the ban list for +matrix:matrix.org rooms, but server ACL banned. Because I was on matrix.org homeserver, I got banned via regular bans. | 03:29:10 |
@tulir:maunium.net | no, max was only regular banned and it showed up in every room normally | 04:30:43 |
Maximus | ππͺππ²πΆπ²π΅π²π²π΅π²πͺπ·: Just to be clear: mxisd is one of a kind in the Matrix ecosystem. We have built it for various reasons but the core mission has always been to offer an alternative to vector.im IS. Whatever happen, we'll keep on making sure mxisd keeps on working for as long as we can, and as long as synapse/Riot allows us to. More and more breakage are happening (the whole 3PID removal is just the most obvious example), but mxisd is not going anywhere, regardless of the Grid effort. We don't want to let any of our users down - mxisd can't be replaced by anything, and giving personal identifable to a for-profit is not a viable option in our mind. (remember that vector.im is the default IS in Riot and not matrix.org. Think what you want of that). | 13:02:02 |
@park:mgp.ax.lt | yes i know. I always.kept.it.set to matrix.org before using/knowing.of.mxids
Im also curious about yore definition of.matrix protocol, grid. | 13:19:56 |
Matt (eggy) | I wouldn't mind a write up about the riot client at some point. | 13:49:03 |
