@kinow:matrix.org | Checking out latest singularity container. It had been a while since I used it the last time. It appears to have way more options, and also allows to fetch images from singularity ... hub? singularity exec --no-home --no-privs library://debian cat /singularity | 21:29:54 |
@kinow:matrix.org | It can even fetch containers from docker hub (I guess it will try to build them locally?). | 21:30:15 |

@kinow:matrix.org | Spent some time today testing OpenTracing with Cylc UIS. Just to save the time of others, I couldn't get it to work with our Tornado app as opentracing-contrib and the other tornado code in opentracing are not compatible with Tornado 6 👍️ | 02:50:54 |
@kinow:matrix.org | So opentracing is now opentelemetry. It works with Python + tornado. Eventually I hope to be able to recognize when there are changes in the times for the five workflow (at the moment I'm pretty good recognizing when its behaviour changes, but can't tell if something took a bit longer). | 05:35:40 |

b | hey guys - i have a question regarding using the --mount option in dokcer-compose, since i want to link a file without docker creating it for me if it doesnt exist on the host (https://docs.docker.com/storage/bind-mounts/#configure-bind-propagation)
If you use -v or --volume to bind-mount a file or directory that does not yet exist on the Docker host, -v creates the endpoint for you. It is always created as a directory. If you use --mount to bind-mount a file or directory that does not yet exist on the Docker host, Docker does not automatically create it for you, but generates an error.

@kinow:matrix.org | Hi b , are you using docker-compose to install Cylc? Depending on the image you are using that should work. You can just use the volumes section: https://docs.docker.com/compose/gettingstarted/#step-5-edit-the-compose-file-to-add-a-bind-mount | 01:06:47 |
b | yeah i'm trying that, i want to bind etc/global.rc.eg to a file located in the same directory as my compose file, but instead of copying the file, docker creates a directory | 01:10:19 |
b | dockers documentation says i should use --mount, but since im not using docker run, but docker-compose | 01:10:41 |
