| @Dezponia:matrix.org | One of the strange problems with aliases is that "only the user that created the alias can remove it" from a room, if I've understood the matrix.org guys correctly at least. As a result some aliases have been lost to time since a user set them on some throw-away room and then logged off forever or deactivated their account. Essentially that means they cant be reclaimed since even the IRC bot wont sync priviliges higher than moderator so the only "true" admin is then the IRC bot. Its pretty annoying | 08:04:28 |

| @Dezponia:matrix.org | Since its possible to set up your own server which would obviously be the most "official" of of aliases and it'd work for everyone due to the federated nature of matrix its not the end of the world if an alias is lost on the matrix.org server. However the matrix.org one is by far the biggest one and not having to host it oneself is obviously more efficent, so having the "official" alias on the matrix.org server is beneficial like that. Obviously when I say official alias I mean alias, not channel. The official, primary channel is still IRC of course, with the "official matrix alias" ideally pointing towards the IRC channel :) | 08:13:05 |
