@valka:fairydust.spacevalkamatrix is literally *the* interoperability protocol though - and has over 60 million users 17:15:22
@valka:fairydust.spacevalkaI'm not a dev here so I can't say, but it would be cool to see an actual social media platform on matrix - especially once matrix goes p2p.17:15:57

I don't really prefer any of these two for a technical reason, just for this reason I wonder what the decision looks like.
17:17:03
@valka:fairydust.spacevalkawell, mastodon has no encryption for one17:19:39
@matthew:boowho.memirdakiThere are strengths and weakness with ActivityPub and Matrix respectively. A big one, ActivityPub has not native concept of E2EE, which is fairly important if you want to have private communications that are truly private Although both federate and both can be bridged together, they both do that in very different ways. Besides, I think a strength of open source is that we can play around with different approaches in the open and learn from each other17:19:46
@valka:fairydust.spacevalkaso that immediately puts it in a very different class17:19:52

well, mastodon has no encryption for one
Reddit does not have either, if this is supposed to be like Reddit, I don't see the issue.

Yup.

@erebion:erebion.euerebion 🏳️‍🌈♾I'll definitely follow this and might at a later point join for some UI translations. :)17:21:05
@erebion:erebion.euerebion 🏳️‍🌈♾Any RSS feed with a blog or some easy low traffic way of following what's going on?17:21:45

We (the open source community) aren't limited to being like what already exists. We don't need to be a clone of something that's already out there. It may be like Reddit in some regards, but remixed to be something different

The reason I follow projects like this is to see where they go

17:22:50
@erebion:erebion.euerebion 🏳️‍🌈♾Same.17:29:47
@erebion:erebion.euerebion 🏳️‍🌈♾And if it goes anywhere I'm here for translations to/from English/German/Swedish/Norwegian as I like seeing UI in multiple laguages, but I figured it's way too early for that.17:30:43

17:32:06
@mondstern:matrix.sp-codes.demondsternAnyway. I have translated into 73 languages this year.17:37:59

Using automation? Because I've recently been told by someone who studied something with languages that it is not possible to know more than a few languages well.

@imbev:matrix.orgimbevwhen this project is more stable, and perhaps with a better name, i will probably pay for a domain and setup a dedicated website+instance18:34:16

Will it not just divide communities further without interoperability?
by focusing strongly on seamless integration with chat-focused client, i hope to be in the same boat as the matrix chat clients
18:40:08
@imbev:matrix.orgimbevlike how adding a chat client doesn't divide Matrix negatively, this should repurpose pre-existing communities as part of a social media "activity"18:41:38
