@matthew:boowho.memirdakiIf replies are treated as thread messages, how do you differentiate comments on those replies? I think that gets hard to understand very quickly (if you're using a regularly chat client anyway) So I would suggest making a reply a separate message. Granted, I haven't looked at how messages can reference other messages outside a threaded context yet, so there may be other problems there 15:24:58
@imbev:matrix.orgimbevi'm inclined towards the same solution, however it does make a slightly less consistent experience with chat clients that don't support threads15:27:24

@imbev:matrix.orgimbevobject 3 is a thread message and object 1 is a reply message, both in response to the same message 15:28:55
@imbev:matrix.orgimbevit wouldn't be a problem to differentiate the two, however i would need to look into replies within a thread15:29:40
@imbev:matrix.orgimbev * object 3 is a thread message and object 1 is a reply message, both in response to the same message (after conversion to matrix-social-specific data format, not the original matrix json)15:31:32
@imbev:matrix.orgimbevi understand your problem with a chain of replies15:32:41
@imbev:matrix.orgimbevi'll ask in the beyond chat room15:33:25

maybe responding to messages could be sent in a thread, but reading replies and threads would be the same (in matrix-social)

@erebion:erebion.euerebion 🏳️‍🌈♾I'm confused.17:05:54
@imbev:matrix.orgimbevit will act like reddit, twitter, etc, but use the Matrix protocol17:07:37
@erebion:erebion.euerebion 🏳️‍🌈♾So like Lemmy and Mastodon?17:11:09
@erebion:erebion.euerebion 🏳️‍🌈♾Will it federate with that?17:11:17

In reply to @erebion:erebion.eu
Will it federate with that?
no because they're activitypub. The closest thing that probably exists is cerulean https://matrix.org/blog/2020/12/18/introducing-cerulean
17:12:08
@erebion:erebion.euerebion 🏳️‍🌈♾Then why not use the protocol that's already gaining traction?17:14:07
@erebion:erebion.euerebion 🏳️‍🌈♾Will it not just divide communities further without interoperability?17:14:23
@erebion:erebion.euerebion 🏳️‍🌈♾I mean, I like Matrix. Just wonder why Matrix.17:14:54
