inphovore | On a PKD binge: ubik, paycheck, the penultimate Truth. | 05:38:36 |
inphovore | PKD is right about EVERYTHING!!! | 05:38:59 |
librarian21 | Guess I should get those on my list, eh? | 05:41:33 |
literalpotato | where's a good place to start with PKD? | 05:42:04 |
literalpotato | i can always eenie meenie | 05:42:41 |
inphovore | Going back through the classical, some of his stuff is hard to read. He’s such a weirdo. A lovable clever uncle kind of weirdo. Paycheck was really refreshingly straight forward, I’m still trying to understand ubik, and I’m not yet finished with penultimate which is sort of a better remake of another of his stories I remember from years ago. That whole world secret kept from everyone theme. | 05:46:13 |
inphovore | I also found a cache of his shorts turned into radio dramas which are GREAT! Like beyond lies the Wub. | 05:48:05 |
inphovore | Which clued me in on an inside joke in penultimate truth, where a character refers to “wall to wall wub carpeting” which I wouldn’t have gotten before | 05:49:10 |
inphovore | (Found the radio dramas on YouTube!) | 05:49:44 |

literalpotato | ooh the radio dramas sound like they'd be a good intro. or any shorts | 05:50:52 |
inphovore | Yes, most of his stories are available as audio books. | 05:51:36 |
inphovore | * Yes, most of his stories are available as audio books as well | 05:51:52 |

inphovore | Well back to bed | 05:52:12 |
inphovore | Enjoy! | 05:52:17 |
literalpotato | thanks! | 05:52:25 |
literalpotato | 👋 | 05:52:33 |
BrenBarn | I read like 100 of his short stories over a period of months because the library had a big multivolume set and I would read them in between other stuff when I was there | 06:39:45 |
BrenBarn | some of them are totally nuts and make no sense | 06:39:53 |
BrenBarn | some are pretty cool | 06:39:57 |
notsoboringdude | Can anyone give me suggestions for good short story collections by more contemporary writers. Any genre is fair game! | 11:54:47 |
