K4sum1 | Is there a way to make the browser load a few tabs that I open but not every tab?
If I'm looking at stuff, I like opening everything relevant in a new tab, but I won't immeadately get to it. So I would like to delay the loading of it until I get to it to use less RAM | 15:36:42 |
gringo_★ | dramlor: I’ve heard NoScript is good for such ventures | 15:37:03 |
dramlor | In reply to @yellow_reactor:matrix.org dramlor: I’ve heard NoScript is good for such ventures I had also heard the same for the addons Ublock Origin/Umatrix, that's why i were quite disappointed when i failed. I don't know if i'm doing something wrong with the filters or if the addons don't support this at all. That's why i hoped for a concrete example here | 15:40:02 |

K4sum1 | Well, I want to stop loading from the beginning as I have encountered scenarios where I can encounter out of memory failures | 15:41:58 |
GrayShade | Firefox unloads them anyway if you're running out of memory, at least on Windows. And you can set a 1-minute delay | 15:46:59 |
K4sum1 | No I mean while they're still loading it can just crash the content process | 15:47:20 |
Celmor | is it just me or is the storage tabs UI in the developer tools bigger than most other tabs? I've got it popped out and am right clicking on the local storage items | 17:34:56 |

sonorangoose | There was a story today https://www.pcmag.com/news/firefox-power-user-keeps-7400-plus-browser-tabs-open-for-2-years ... and a curious comment: "A Mozilla rep confirms to PCMag that having tons of Firefox tabs open consumes "practically no memory whatsoever." uhhh ... I have way less than 7000 tabs, but FF is taking more than 6G ram. So, some dumb Qs ... what could be the difference? I have uBlock and Containers, "Auto Tab Discard". Do I still need Auto Tab Discard? | 03:10:22 |

Caspy7 | If one restarts the browser frequently enough (especially those running Nightly) it's not much of an issue | 04:34:54 |
Caspy7 | because by default Firefox only loads focused tabs on restart | 04:37:27 |
sonorangoose | maybe thats one of my problems, I have 16 windows, so maybe each window activates at least 1 tab, but 6G still seems like much | 05:08:49 |
mei | yeah windows add even more load | 05:18:58 |
mei | i'm pretty sure the extension use the unload already in firefox | 05:19:51 |
mei | but yeah expect to have to restart the session after you opened and unloaded enough tabs | 05:20:22 |

B.J. Herbison | sonorangoose: The memory use might be related to add-ons. You could use about:memory to get some information about where the memory use is. | 08:42:16 |
